Eastern Star Home In Kentucky

My father moved into Eastern Star Home. The location was good and it's very homey. It has care like a nursing home, but it doesn't look like a nursing home. His room looks more like an apartment. I brought all of his stuff, and then they provided a hospital bed. You could decorate it and you didn't have to use their furniture, so it doesn't look like a hospital room. He's not able to do a lot, but every time I go visit him, they get him out of his wheelchair and he's sitting in his recliner. The door is always open. He's always clean. In the other places I've had him, he would have a dirty shirt on but here he's never had a dirty shirt on. He doesn't want to participate in anything, but they take him outside. He loves the outside, so for his level, it's working well for him. He used to fall all the time at his last facility, and he's only fallen one time here. It is just so much better than where he was before. The physical condition is kind of dated, but it's very clean. They clean the bathrooms every day. It's way less expensive than a lot of the other places I looked at.

My mother and I hated the thought of having to take my aunt out of her home and put her in a nursing home but due to her having dementia it had to be done. We finally accepted it and started looking at different nursing homes in Louisville. We visited some really nice ones, we was not going to put her just anywhere. I chose to visit Eastern Star and after my visit, I knew it was the one. I loved how clean it was and I saw the connection between the staff and the residents and that's what did it for me, other nursing homes that we visited did not have that connection with the residents. Randell Lively (Director of Admissions) is just the best! He made the transition of moving my aunt very easy. The staff at Eastern Star have gone above and beyond the call of duty. You can really tell that the staff cares about its residents and I recommend Eastern Star for anyone who needs it.

I can promise you this is one of the shoddiest establishmentsIn the East end or in Louisville in general. Operators are penny pinching, lazy and perfectly fine with people's loved ones living in leaky rooms with mold growth, leaky roof busted gutters, out of date plumbing(severely) not to mention the faulty barely working fire suppression systemThe only staffAt this establishmentThat does their job and does a good jobIs the nursing staffHousekeeping barely existSecurity nonexistent

Excellent choice for an aging parent. Mom was there about 9 months before she passed at age 92....very caring staff.

Best retirement home n Louisville

This is the nicest nursing home facility I have ever visited. Exceptionally clean! The staff is like family to the residence. They care about keeping in touch with the families. The Eastern Star Chapters throughout KY are wonderful to bring gifts, send cards, entertain . The entire facility was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season! I would recommend Eastern Star Homes in KY to everyone needing a home to retire comfortably in!

Great place for seniors

My grandma was living at the Eastern Star home until she went to heaven can't say enough about how good they cared for her it is a great place

Exceptional! I can't imagine why anyone would give this home less than 5 stars. My grandmother is a resident at Eastern Star and I have been so very impressed with their staff, cleanliness, meals, just about everything! We could not have picked a better place for her.

I checked out several homes before deciding on Eastern Star for my 92 year-old mother. She has been there for 2 months and we are thrilled with the level of care and support from the staff. The meals are outstanding and I think mom has put on a few pounds since being there. They have weekly activities from bingo, to Wii bowling, to sing-a-longs, etc. They have someone that does the residents hair, and nails. We couldn't be more pleased with the level of overall care from the complete staff.

My mother is at Eastern Star Home. When she lived with us, we’re going from with just insulin and thyroid medicines, but now I had a $1000 prescription bill for all the stuff. They’re ordering glucagon kit -- which my husband just told me they’ve recalled -- but on top of that, they’re ordering glucose too -- which are the same thing except those are $800 and $80 on our part. Then, they start charging for the nurses -- which is already their job -- to go check my mother’s sugar $2 extra every time they check her sugar. So we’re now adding an extra $300 a month because they’re checking her sugar that much. They’re ordering things that they don’t need to be ordering just in case. They’re not communicating with us.

Eastern Star is a nursing home located at 923 Cherokee Rd in Louisville KY. Unfortunately it is the only one close to my parents home with an opening for Alzheimer's patients. My father had to put my mom somewhere so with no other alternatives she is residing there. Within the first 6 months I noticed problems. My mother was left to lay in dirty sheets to the point she developed bedsores. One of the nurses got her up to walk once and did not support her adequately resulting in a fall which broke my mothers hip. There was one nurse who took care of my mother on day shifts that was a God-send. She seemed to genuinely care for her patients and took good care of my mother while she was at work. However, when she saw what was going on during the other shifts, she made a formal complaint to administration. The result of that complaint was that she herself was fired for complaining. So as far as staff goes I am not at all impressed. The facility itself is small and kept fairly clean. The meals are adequate and the grounds are sufficient for a facility of this size. Over-all I would say it is a pleasant place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there!
