Reviews
for HighlandSpring of Fort Thomas
The administrators at facility for head hunting beds for them to fill is ridiculous! They are contracted with St Elizabeth which makes dealing with St Elizabeth hospital very difficult on other facilities for their patients to go to. if patient's family would do their homework they would find other Post acute medical centers. This facility is not even a Post acute medical center it is a glorified nursing home to which they still need to send out patients to St Elizabeth to receive wound care and dialysis in other medical procedures that cannot be done at highland. Bottom line is St Elizabeth makes everything difficult and that hospital is not that great to begin with the only reason the rank number two in Kentucky is because there's no other hospitals can parable take your loved ones to University of Cincinnati
Just got here , I've got a lot of work to to do to get better.
My brother-in-law is currently at Highlandspring of Fort Thomas. I like that there's a nice outdoor space where the residents can go and sit. The physical therapy people also seem excellent and very caring. We've been pleased with the nursing care. The most difficult part is that he has to share a room, which makes it very hard for him. I think that's the struggle, but that also has to do with affordability because to get a private room, it's another $900, and he doesn't have that kind of money. You've always got a few who are not good, but for the most part, the staff members have been very good. My husband is my brother-in-law's guardian, and they've been very willing to share information and discuss issues with us. I've been pleased with them. At first, he loved the food, but now he's tired of it. I think that's a sign that he's getting well, though. It's typical nursing home food, but he's gained weight, and that's a good thing for us. For a nursing home, I think the food is good. It's not like it would be in a restaurant, but it's good. The facility is very clean and very nice. They don't have a balcony, but they have an outdoor space he could go to. My brother-in-law goes to exercise, but most of the activities are geared toward women, and I think that's a struggle. He's not interested in bingo or any of the things that more women would want to do. They take Medicaid, and we appreciate that. He's only paying for what he can afford, and the rest of it is paid by the Medicaid government program.
More to come
My dad, who has dementia, spent two weeks at Highlandsprings in their rehab unit. He received great care while there and is doing really well physically. This is the best he has looked since he initially fell causing a brain bleed two months ago. I feel like everyone there truly cares about his wellbeing and wants to see his succeed. Also, the communication from across all departments has been wonderful.
My mom is currently at HighlandSpring. They always address any issues right away which is much appreciated. Molly Brown & Amy Ruck have been awesome to work with. I would like to thank the STNA’s that have been so wonderful to my mom. They are Ja’von, Chase, Davi, Paris, Ashley, Felicity and so many others I cannot name all of them. The nurses (Chris, Keesha, Mary, Christine, Christy, Debbie and Farley just to name a few and the KMA’s (Stacy & Sherry) are very caring. My mom recently got sick and Stacy stayed past her shift to ensure my mom was okay. Also, they have one of the best rehab/therapy team’s around. Caeley/therapist has gone above and beyond to help my mom. My only suggestion would be an improvement in the menu.
My mother is a resident at Highland Springs. She has received excellent care from the staff. Everyone is friendly and supportive. The facility is clean and well maintained. I like to give special recognition to Abby, Quinn, Sarah, and Flo for taking such good care of her. Also, I like to recognize her Nurse Practitioner Hauna. Thank you to all the staff at Highland Springs!
I went to a community event for Halloween and Easter at Highlandspring. It was a great event. I loved the interaction with my kids and the patients. Would definitely recommend! ♥️
Very grateful for the privilege to care for the skilled patients and residents at Highlandspring. So appreciative for my team of nurses! Staff is good at recognizing and communicating important information, and very adept at handling difficult health related situations!
Recently had a family member at Highlandspring. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The nursing staff was very thorough when my family member quickly declined. Very pleased with all staff and the building itself. Very clean and bright. Would recommend this facility to many!
Great place, excellent team work, and amazing staff!!
Thank you to all the staff at Highland Springs during my recent stay. They made my visit there as pleasant as possible. Lots of laughter Brightened my days with the OT/PT crew of OfJosie , Elliott, Natalie, Blake and all the rest!
Everyone at highland springs was kind and attentive to my mother during her stay. Her therapists, Josie, Elliott, Natalie, Blake and all the rest were instrumental in her rehab process. Thank you to Molly Gadd, Molly Brown, Abby and all the staff at Highland Springs for her exceptional care!
My grandmother was at Highlandsprings for rehab for about 2 months. Transitioning from the hospital, it took a little bit to settle in but things were great once she got acclimated. My family felt like the nurse practitioner was very responsive when any issues with medications or complications came up. The medical staff was willing to work along with specialists and my grandma’s regular doctors to get everything back to a regimen that worked for her. The rehab staff was also great – they really knew how to encourage my grandma and push her just the right amount. She would have therapy several times a day and really loved the therapists that worked with her. When she first got out of the hospital, she needed the help of 2 people to do anything but by the time she finished at Highlandsprings she was able to walk independently and return to living alone. My family is very grateful for everything they did to help my grandma!
Cannot say enough about this place. Awesome staff and facility. They took care of my brother and he loved it there. If you want someone to take care of your loved ones, I highly suggest checking this facility out.
Some of the Carespring staff ws ok and some sgould mot be in the nursing profession. The food was horrendus. The inly thing good at Highland Springs was the therapy staff. They helpedme get to where I am after my steoke. If you called for a nurse they did not rush to get there.before I could wash myself sometimes I remained uncleaned. Poor experience. That was 15 months ago so hopefully it has improved
Horrible don’t send your loved ones here if you don’t wanna take my word here’s post my Mamal made while she was there before dying I could go on and on about this place i’m so sorry Mamal you had to suffer there for 2 months
My wife Cassie left a review about her grandma's care and time here not even 24 hours ago and the administration called her aunt this morning wanting her to ask if it can be taken down and argue with her being unprofessional saying how we would take her out to smoke cigarettes, yes we did but she loved her cigarettes and was grown and was dying anyway so we was gonna let her do anything to make her happy! My wife was nice enough to leave out how they didn't rotate her mamaw and she ended up with bed sores lost a bunch of weight just from 2 months of being there also she could walk and was mobile before going in there then maybe 2 weeks after being in there she couldn't walk and needed a wheel chair. We begged her to stay with one of us but she said she didn't wanna be a burden and was always independent so she signed herself in there but was brought home her last week. The care was so bad she was taken from us before it was her time I believe she would have lived longer if not for this place no we will not delete our reviews to make y'all look good Veras story will be heard!
This place honestly needs shut down my grandma could walk and everything when she first got there just needs some help and by time we took her out she couldn’t even walk and was only there two months they would just give her medicine and make her sleep so much to the point she couldn’t feed herself and they didn’t care to assist her and make sure she ate. Also they would barely change her bed sheets and she would be in the same diaper for days, my mom even marked a diaper she put her in and we came back two days later and it was the same diaper. We have sat there for 8 hours straight and they barley was in her room to check on her would just come in to give her medicine then leave and even one day I went there and she was trying to eat but was so out of it she couldn’t had food all up her arm and on her shirt it got to the point we had togo there everyday to make sure she ate. Ik this is scattered but do not put your loved ones in this place it just breaks my heart she had to go through that and it was so hard to take her home they tried to tell us we couldn’t for a little while bc we live In Cincinnati if it wasn’t for Cincinnati hospice wouldn’t of been able to bring her home bc they wasn’t trying to us help at all, honestly isn’t surprising to me because all they do is give these poor people medicine to keep them asleep so they don’t have todo there jobs . And ima say it agains DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS PLACE !!!! They will just be neglected.
Our Dad was transferred here and we couldn't by more happy. We like everything about his care! The staff are dedicated and keep us informed. The medical team are first rate. They have many activities and ways to interact with other seniors. They food is not only delicious but many things are even fortified for additional nutrition that our beloved needs. Most of all Dad is happy. He is gaining some badly needed weight, kids with all the staff and I see a contentment in his eyes and voice. All of these people really care and it shows!
The nicest staff I have ever had the privilege to talk to. Other businesses should follow their example. Simply the best.
The leadership team is friendly, caring, and great female leaders!
Contrary to other reviews, I had excellent care while there for therapy for a broken hip. The staff was caring and friendly. The food was good and the therapy department was great. I highly recommend.
Some of the nurses and staff were good but for the most part most of them didn't care enough about my brother to have a glass of water in his room! Unfortunately, he spent his final days at this place! I wish the people of this country cared about the sick and elderly , they don't, shame on the people of this place that don't! Those that do, thank you!
Slowest place I've ever seen for answering call light not enough staff seen some of them outside room playing on cell phone with call light on.
Please do not bring your loved ones to this facility. My mother received less than adequate care. They do not have enough staff to properly care for the residents. The weekends are beyond horrible. The RN’s do the absolute best they can; Amy (RN) and Molly (NP) are amazing but it’s not enough. Their frustration is palpable. Our mother lost 45 pounds between February,2023 until August 31, 2023. She was unable to feed herself and no one cut her food or fed her until I made a scene about it. I felt like every time I showed up I was causing a scene because of lack of care. She was left in a wheelchair or broda chair where she fell several times daily. She went by squad three times in one month due to her injuries. Her body was black and blue and she had large cuts from getting caught on the chairs. Most of the time, the brakes where not on her chairs! She the was left in her dirty clothing, with food all over her, and put to bed on multiple occasions. Patients are left slumped over in wheelchairs with no activities, no walks, no visits outside. If I wasn’t at the faculty frequently, I can only imagine the further lack of care our mother would have received.. Please be aware and make better decisions than we did.
They was mean to my mother horrible place to be did not change her diaper or feed her beware don't put any of your loved ones here
Do NOT send a loved one to this establishment. From lack of communication to poor daily care and cleanliness, I cannot tell you how utterly disappointed my family has been. Wrong and conflicting information, private information being shared with people it should not have been shared with, and honestly just watching how staff treated patient when they thought no one was around. What a terrible, terrible place for my mother at the end of her life. Just shockingly disappointed and truly saddened that people would act like they care but treat others the way they do. Do NOT Go Here!!!!
BEWARE is so TRUE. My dad was at Caresprings for 3 weeks for physical therapy. He contracted covid, Aspiration Pneumonia and Edema. The physical part of it was good. The nursing care awful. My dad was supposed to be checked every 2 hours they would ensure. That wasn't done. His diaper and bed would be soaked at times. He had wounds on his heels that had blood and pus coming out of the sores. His breakfast would still be sitting on the adjustable meal table COLD. They told us that someone would feed him. Also when I went to the nurses station to ask for help in getting dad to the toilet and then to bed I was told we will be there shortly. Then after 20 minutes later I went back to the nurses station and there were 6 employees there sitting down just talking. Then the girl bit my head off when I asked for help again. The girl who seemed like a trainee said something about the girl being snappy and she said she has been there all day. It really didn't seem they were short handed all the time. Yes, I understand some times but not all the time. Thankfully there was a person in the room with dad who kept us informed. There protocol for covid is none. So much more to say. Thank you for reading. Don't send your love one here.
Clean . Friendly staff good food .But patient care isn’t very good . Complained to upper staff for the care and say it will be addressed . But every time I go back in same problem still there . Which on my time to visit I have to do the proper care myself . . I understand short staffed but care should be given.
My parents are at Highlandspring of Ft. Thomas. It's a skilled nursing, and so far, all the nurses and staff have been very caring towards my parents. They were going to the hospital several times a month and now they're doing better and haven't been to the hospital in several months, so that's good. The amenities are nice and pretty standard. The staff seems very friendly. I haven't tasted the food with all the COVID protocols, but my parents like the food. My daughters actually played some bingo with them and stuff like that.
My mother was there for rehab. She had numerous falls there and died three days after the last fall where her back was broken and she received a concussion. Several times her needed oxygen canister ran out of O2 or was not turned on at all. Nurses seemed to be rushed and overworked most of the time.Understaffing was almost always a problem. Her physical therapy rehab was good and very professional. I would not recommend this facility. Deborah Todd
I was there for two months and the rehab girls were the best nurses were great it made my stay almost like home the only thing is the food needs to get a little better Rich
My husband, Richard, was a rehabilitation patient at Highlandspring for six months (9/2020 thru 3/2021). After 109 days in ICU and LTAC facilities (due to COVID-19) he arrived at Highlandspring. The only mobility he had was moving his right hand. He walked out, using a platform walker, in mid March. The therapy staff at Highlandspring is top notch! The exceptional are too numerous to name. Suffice it to say, they are all very good at their jobs! They challenged Richard everyday to do things that were frightening for him. Due to his desire “not to fall out of formation” and the therapy staff’s knowledge, encouragement and friendship, he thrived! It was long, challenging, exhausting and somewhat painful but Richard and his therapists created a team that supported one another. Success followed!! Molly, the PA, was great! She ensured that Richard’s overall health continued to improve during his stay! He had suffered catastrophic organ failure and as a result managing his medications and his overall health was a critical part of his recovery. Molly did a fantastic job! The Activities Department was so helpful to me. From outside visits, to FaceTime visits to helping coordinate deliveries of special items Nicole and her staff were extremely caring and helpful. They assisted in making the 188 days of Richards stay much more tolerable for both of us. Nicole was also involved in the Director allowing a Compassionate care visit to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary face to face! I took lunch, Richard and I danced and we had lunch together! We were so appreciative of all the efforts by everyone involved in that special day! The nursing care was adequate. Really good some days and not as good other days. Food service was adequate. Overall, our experience was very good.
Nicole I. and Julie H. have been fantastic to work with! They take great care of my grandmother and are always friendly and welcoming.
My mom came back to the highland 2 days ago. My brother & I were there Tuesday night to visit. We noticed my mom's wheelchair wouldn't lock and we were very worried that it was going to slip out from under her and she was going to fall. (She's had several instances of falling this year which has landed her in the hospital each time , which then brings her to the Highland for rehab.) We told a nurse. The nurse said a work order would be put in. Fast forward 24 hours later to Wednesday night, we're both visiting mom and she still has the same unsafe wheelchair. I called a nurse in and pointed out once again how unsafe it was because she can't lock it and she was going to fall. . . I told the nurse we just saw her almost fall. The nurse said she would try to do something the following day. We stressed again that it was NOT SAFE for her. Nurse told my mom to just call for help when she has to go to the bathroom. When my mom's gotta go, she's got to go and she's going to go. When she presses the button to call for help, it can take SO LONG for someone to come and see what she needs. (I've spent many days with my mom this year and I can say with confidence that they don't have people to come right in when you call for help.) Well, my mom went to the bathroom last night and the wheel chair slid out from under her and she fell. Unbelievable!!! My advice when dealing with a safety issue regarding your loved ones, don't sit back and hope they do something. . . be persistent until the issue is solved.
I was not impressed with Highlandspring of Fort Thomas. Overall, it's just mediocre. The professional staff was fine, those were the physical therapists and the nursing staff, but they were super understaffed with aides, and the food was appalling. The room I had was like a hospital room. The building was OK. It was maintained, but it could have improved a lot. They need to hire more staff because things were being neglected since they were understaffed. They also need to put decent food in there.
BEWARE! Our loved one had previously been in Highland Spring of Fort Thomas but when going there the end of July 2021 to get stronger it was a nightmare. She was supposed to be quarantined but nothing stopped others from coming in to her room without masks. Things went missing. It was dirty and unsanitary. We had no meeting at the start. Mom was left in bed, allowed to skip meals or meals weren’t provided not sure which. Meals were never the same time. Often we would he there and it was 4-7 hours before anyone came in her room. We had 1 good nurse and aide that were were overworked and had way to many patients but they were kind. Others were awful. Mom seemed afraid as if she were dropped but we couldn’t get documentation of her care even though we took her home we are still waiting for that. Instead of getting better she go so much worse. On the day we picked up she was in her wheelchair no call buttons and was a mess as if no one cared for her all day. One day the whole hall had the call buttons removed and new ones put in, the patients were without call buttons for hours I got there at 4 and stayed until hers was installed at 9:30pm, I would say they were without at least 8 hours. At least I was there to help but others had no one. They said there were hall walkers but only 1 person came to her room in 5.5 hours and that was to drop off the food. The food was always awful. We took her food because she often didn’t eat theirs. As POA we should have received details of care but test and procedure were done without notifying us. I could go on and on but mostly we want to say DO NOT use this facility unless you want your love one to get worse instead of better. We have contacted the corporation and the State if Ky. We have looked back and wondered how we kept her there at all but the care just kept going down hill until we decided to just take her home. Physical Therapy was nice and we hoped that helped but instead she was walking to the bathroom and by the end of the 1st week she couldn’t , so who knows what she had been doing we got no information.
My father was there I can not say enough about the staff's friendliness and care they did for my father. My 2 sister's will agree with me on this the staff was the best.
Great wonderful customer service. Clean More than you would ever expect in health care.😁🙂
BEWARE!!! This rehab facility is very shady and deceptive. My father was at the facility for a total of 12 days and on the twelfth day I had to demand that he be sent to the hospital due to lack of care. My father had been in severe pain for almost 24 hours and the Nurse Practitioner was going to allow him to stay in pain for at least another 12 hours or more because it was the end of day and they weren't going to do any additional testing until the following day knowing full well that any type of pain medication that was given would not help. Luckily, I was able to get him transferred to the hospital and within 4 hours they were not only able to get him out of pain, but to find the source of the pain and begin treatment. The following day I contacted the facility numerous times to request my father's belongings be packed up, so that we could pick them up as he is not going back to the facility. I also requested that the Social Worker, Julie Hoffman and / or the Head Nurse, Amy give me a call to discuss the lack of treatment received and to advise them that my father would not be returning. I have not received a call from anyone at the facility. The only way we were able to even know that his belongings were ready for pick up was because the only truly honest and helpful employee within the facility, Kristy, the receptionist in the lobby advised me that she had his belongings after numerous phone calls. Thank you Kristy. The only communication that we have received from the facility was a certified letter asking if we wanted them to hold my father's bed to which we politely replied no. I can only assume that they were hoping we would say yes, so that they could begin to charge us a daily co-pay as we had already received a statement for the co-pay when his insurance stopped covering at 100% on 9/30/2020 after he had only been in the facility for a few days. Do not let the other reviews on Google mislead you. Had I not demanded my father's transfer to the hospital it is very possible that my father would not be here today.
This place is the most terrible nursing home I have put my grandma in. She was there for about a month and the nurses didn’t turn her or clean her properly and she was left with one of the worst bed sores a person could have. I would recommend never sending any of your family members to this nursing home. They are awful.
All the people from the cleaning crew on up were friendly helpful encouraging and did their job beyond my satisfaction
Great place to rehab at. The aides and the nurses are very nice. The facility is really nice too. Just wish I could have a room to myself but of course my insurance would not cover. 😪
Staff is great. The accommodations are wonderful. The dining is delightful, food is great 👍
I’ve been calling this nursing home for the past two weeks and leaving countless messages to the Activities Department for a position that is open. I am not sure why they will not consider picking up the phone nor returning my calls. This is puzzling.
I slammed the brake when I got here😂
The physical therapy department is great. I did have problems with a few of the nurses aids. They flat out refused to go to the nurses station when I'd call for my medication. I was there 3 times for knee replacement and corrective knee revision surgery. I'll be there a 4th time only because I think their PT Department is so good. I'd have to go to the nurses station, myself, to get my medication. The aids flat out refused to do it for me. They'd rather see me have to get on a walker and go down the hall because they were too lazy to do their jobs!
I don't even know where to start! First off I'll start by saying keep a close eye on your loved ones in these places! Most of these employees are too rough with the fragile injured elderly! They Will reinjure whatever injuries you come in with. They take forever to bring them the bedpan, then they take half an hour to come back and get them off the bed pan. Her sweater was stolen! She's in constant pain while the meds don't work and nothing is being done about it. The employees come to work sick without wearing a mask and some stinking of Strong cigarettes! Worst of all the physical therapist LISA INJURED MY MOTHER DURING THERAPY AND NOTHING WAS DONE! THE MANAGER BLAKE WAS IN THE ROOM DURING THIS PAINFUL INJURY AS MY MOTHER YELLED AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT! I spoke with him about this matter and all that was done is the physical therapist Lisa surprised my mother with a confrontation! Practically backed her into a corner! caught my mom off guard! This THERAPIST LISA IS STILL WORKING WITH MY MOM! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO I SHOULD REPORT THIS TO??? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME! SIGNED: WORRIED ABOUT MOM 😷🤒🤕. UPDATE! After I had written this review, I came to find out my mother had fallen several times due to their faulty wheelchair that they would NOT fix after she had told them several times. They would not give her shampoo and the baths were very limited. The shower head was full of feces which no one would clean off, so my mother Had to take her bathing cloth and clean it HERSELF! I just cannot believe the dangerous and unsanitary occurrences that go on in these places. As my mother was being discharged, the therapist that injured her, took her reach and grab tool that was given to her, and kept it! UNBELIEVABLE!
I generally would only write a good review but I think everyone should be aware. I was really hoping that my mom would get the care she needed but I quickly found out that was not going to happen. The staff hated me, I know because I needed to be there daily to see she received the medical care she needed. So everyday I was complaining that she needed her medication at the correct time, she needed her neutralizer for her COPD, she needed her extra nutrition since she had lost 6 pounds in a week. I also complained and let myself known that she needed her clothes changed instead of having dirty/food collected clothe on for days. She was trying to gain strength to go to the bathroom on her own but slowly left that go since she would have to wait for a half hour or more to get on the toilet and than the same amount of time to be helped off. Then there are the little things. I was hoping that she could enjoy activities so we set there the end of Oct. and highlighted the things she would enjoy doing. We didn't do it for Dec. since it would not make a difference. I would go daily and we would do things but very rarely would anyone come to help her get to the activities. Since I could not be there all the time I hired someone from an agency to go and take her to the activities. I didn't complain about this to staff, that was (little things) and I had enough that I had to ask for, request over and over. I would talk to mom and say "oh this aid seems nice" her comment was only while you are here. With that being said, there are a few that I just knew was kind and did their job and even enjoyed it. We loved the speech therapist, mom called her sweetie pie. The physical therapist was great to my mom. There are a few aids that you could tell enjoyed being there but not many. Mom lived less than 6 weeks. Please just take this in consideration before putting your loved ones there . UPDATE!!!! My mom passed away 12/10/18 and today is 1/15/19 with no death certificate yet. The doctor on staff at Highland Springs from what the funeral director told me refused to sign it. Finally after putting them through a run around they signed it on 1/14/19. So it will be at least another week before I receive my moms death certificate. Pitiful. Watch out.
