I have a brother In knot county nursing home. anytime I have dealt with staff they are all very professional. You can’t meet a more caring facility. These people are awesome. They treat our family like their own. It’s a blessing that we have a nursing home like this in eastern Kentucky.

My grandmother has called this facility home for less than 6 months, and her condition has worsened due to the treatment she has received. My grandmother shares a room with someone who blasts the air conditioner, and she was hospitalized for over a month for pneumonia. Not only was medication required, she had to have a procedure done to her chest to drain off the fluid and was facing the possibility of surgery. This problem could have been fixed, but instead the staff did nothing. The food at the nursing was well prepared and pureed for my grandmother since she has a condition. The decorations and interior were very nice and looked freshly done, with seasonal decor and regional pride. The exterior of the facility had nice greenery, flowers and seating for visitors. The facility also houses animals, which I think is great for residents who enjoy the companionship. One thing I found less than ideal is that this nursing home is located next to a garbage dump. I also found visitor parking, although paved, to be a pain. Visitor parking is limited to less than 20 spaces for visitors which are frequently packed full. On the other hand, the employee parking lot is graveled on the opposite side of the facility and I have yet to see even close to half full when I park there. Employee parking is triple the size of visitor parking and the front of employee parking is marked reserved for employees only, which makes me uncomfortable parking there when I visit my grandmother when the visitors side is full.

The Knott County Health and Rehabilitation Center is located in southeastern Kentucky. I go there often to visit residents in the community. Recently, a dear friend of mine, as well as a brother in our church had to be admitted there because of his progressing Alzheimers Disease. I had noticed the decline when I saw him at church regularly. His family kept him home as long as they could, but due to his rapid decline they had no other choice. Even though he doesn't recognize me, I go see him at least once a week because he is such a wonderful man, friend, and brother in our church. He is about twenty years older than I, but from the first time I met him we became friends. He never failed to joke and try to cheer me up if he knew I was feeling down. As for the nursing home he is in, it is the nicest one in south eastern Kentucky. The staff is friendly, it's kept clean, and even though they seem to be understaffed a bit, they do a fantastic job of making sure all the residents are taken care of. In my opinion, my dear friend has the best place to live in these last stages of his life.
