Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care's building was beautiful. I talked to one staff, and she was very kind and very helpful. It just was too expensive for Mom to be able to go there. I got to see one of the rooms, and it was very, very nice and large. The building was very clean and neat, too.

Would not recommend. Highly unprofessional main office staff that are very disrespectful and rude.

Unspecified · December 2024

She made it right and kept her word. When the CEO discovered that they had overcharged our loved one she said that she would make it right, and she did. We are grateful. I would give a five star for keeping their word. However, I gave them a one-star because of the lack of professionalism in tone of voice etc., when we were communicating about our loved ones' situation. We determined MALMC was not a good fit for our loved one.

The front desk named [name removed] has been very rude for inquiries. Once she knows what you need, she will drop the call. When we called back, she answered but left it hanging. No one was speaking and you can clearly hear it dropped to the table. A very considerate place, indeed.

My mom moved to Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care. I'm very happy with the community. I like the place very much. It doesn't feel like a nursing home environment. It's very clean, very small, and community-oriented with a lot fewer people, so she's not overstimulated. They don't do a good job keeping up with her meds, but that's because it's not skilled nursing. I would like to see the same people all the time. Unfortunately, it's just not that way and that's business, but everybody I have met has been very helpful and kind. I'm very satisfied with the staff. There's lots of room for improvement. My mom was very into the loud music at the other place we had her in, and I certainly missed that. I'm not aware of any activities they've done with my mom. There are not as many activities, but there's also the adjustment period, maybe she'll settle in and get more into that, but right now she's not. I'm very happy with the food and with the dining area. It's very small and quaint. It's only eight people living in that building. So it's very nice and the food quality is much better where she is now than where she was.

5 for all of them. Mom has been happy at Meadowthorpe and they have all been very helpful. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend Meaowthorpe Assisted Living and Memory Care to other families.

Acquaintance · June 2024

Always sounds much better than the reality. Unfortunately. Staff turnover is high. Sometimes activities for residents don't happen. And it is not someone's home, even though remaining at home is not an option at this time. Overall positive though.

VERY FAT AND HATEFUL MANAGERS

Acquaintance · March 2024

There was an incident with his medication. Some medication was missing, and they said he had opened the locked door (combination), taken it out, and flushed it. He was unable to open that locked door. The container of medication was too big to flush. Staff members just said they would look into it and move his medicine out of his room to a secure location. This did not happen. When asked, they stated that they were leaving it there to "watch" him. The staff was not aware that he should be "watched.” They did not watch him swallow his medication; therefore, it wasn’t taken as directed. Without the medication, he may display aggressive behaviors, which is what happened, and he had to be moved. Once moved and medication was given consistently, he did display those behaviors.

Acquaintance · February 2024

Turnover seems high but I'm told all care facilities have trouble keeping good help. Everyone is kind, caring, and courteous.

Acquaintance · January 2024

While Meadowthorpes unique structure design and daytime staffing is very good; night time is different. At night there is one staff per cottage if 8 people. If the resident is not compliant, if they are restless, fidget/walk that one person cannot cover as needed. I was called multiple times to drive out and sit with the resident ie baby sit. I'm sure this is an individual issue however, it did occur and became obvious that the single staff at night per cottage only works with near perfect scenario. A perspective family also needs to understand that it is a very controlled facility. If a resident does not adhere to the "ideal" resident standards, outside the norm - the facility is less than cooperative. Meaning - it is their way or the highway. Again, this might be due to the method of staffing. Delightful at the beginning- when the resident's changed to where they could no longer provide services - they would not provide and extension of stay- issuing an - must be out date. That said.... I still feel the amount charged at settlement was not properly prorated.

I've been to Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care. It's like, eight rooms to one area, so basically, everything was on one floor. It was easy to access the kitchen area, easy to access the dining room area, and all the facilities. Everything was just in one area, so you wouldn't have to worry about taking an elevator or getting stairs, or traveling somewhere else to go to the activity area. Also, it was one aide to eight residents. It was clean and the upkeep was nice. The staff was very informative, and answered all the questions that I had.

My mother moved into Meadowthorpe Oct. 2019 after my father passed. We visited several Independent/Assisted Living places before Meadowthorpe that had the one room efficiency look that cost more for less space. Once we visited Meadowthorpe we stopped visiting other places because Meadowthorpe's apartment style layout sold us. Meadowthorpe is basically an apartment. This is important for those downsizing/transitioning from a home because it gave my mom a since of independence of still being in her own place and it also gave her room to keep a lot of her stuff from the house (furniture, pictures, clothes (they have a nice walk in closet), etc.). The above is somewhat important but what sealed the deal was Meadowthopre's staff/team and other residents. From our first introduction everyone from the staff (Lea Ann (CEO) and office workers), aids, kitchen workers and other residents treated my mom as if she was their own mother. They genuinely made her feel at home. If you're looking for an Independent/Assisted/Memory care for a loved one, I highly recommend paying Meadowthopre a visit. I'd give them 10 stars if they had more stars available.

I can highly recommend Meadowthorpe Assisted Living and Memory Care in Lexingtin, Ky as a safe and friendly place to take care of you or your loved ones when they can no longer take care of themselves. The facility is split into 5 buildings with 8 apartments each, so it doesn't have that rehab/hospital like feel that some other facilities do. Each apartment has its own kitchen/living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Each building has its own entrance sitting area, kitchen, dining room/TV room, covered back porch, and laundry. They have outings for capable residents and on site events and crafts. The staff cares for each resident like family and make sure they are getting the support they need. They provide special memory care for residents who have dementia/Alzheimer's and need extra looking after. When my parents needed to leave their home and go into assisted living this is the place we settled on after looking at several others. The multi-room apartment style living is what made the difference. The staff helped tremendously with getting them settled in their new environment. A doctor comes to check on residents monthly or more as needed. Transportation is provided for residents that need to go to their doctors office for appointments or the hospital if necessary. I also found the pricing to be very reasonable when compared to other similar facilities. The apartments are typically unfurnished, but that helped with the transition for my parents because they could bring furniture they were familiar with.

This is a wonderful place. The Cottage set up makes living there much more like living in a home than a huge building. The other residents become "family". Residents can stay in their apartment if they don't feel social but come out for meals and activities if they do. This arrangement is so much better than the huge buildings where people may not know one another. The staff are very caring too. A dear friend has been here and I am so grateful for the care that she has been given.

Unspecified · April 2023

I am at an assisted living facility called Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care. They furnish three meals. They have free transportation. Most people here are either with wheelchairs or walkers. The apartments are roomy. They are designed for wheelchairs. The doors have very large openings. Most of the people here stay in their apartments. They just come out to eat meals. The care is good, and the meals are good. I'm just paying for stuff I don't need. The showers here are large and you can put a wheelchair in the shower. If you're in a wheelchair or a walker, the rooms are really good and they take care of you, but when you're independent where you don't need any of that, it's just too much. I also need something to lower the cost. Other than that, I'm perfectly happy. The activities are very limited. They don't have that many activities because most of the people are in wheelchairs, so they have to have non-physical activities. I don't have any complaints about this facility at all. It's just I'm over-cared for, I think, and I need to cut the cost. And they check in every two to three hours, which is sort of a nuisance because I don't need anybody doing that. I take care of my own medication, so I don't need somebody to look after me every two or three hours. If you need it, I think it would be of value. I think for what you get, it's a pretty good price.

We had a very positive tour experience with Meadowthorpe. All of the staff were very nice, but it just did not have that homey feeling that we were looking for.

Unspecified · February 2023

I loved Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care, but it was way above my brother's budget. If he had the budget, I would move him in there today. I liked the cottage-style setup that they had. It had 8 residents around a central living room and dining room. They had a special room if you wanted to have a family gathering. The decor was beautiful, and the staff was friendly, professional, courteous, and informative. They had an excellent schedule of activities for their residents. They gave me the food menu for the week and it looked excellent. And then if the resident didn't like the choice that they had, there were other things that they could get a la carte.

Acquaintance · September 2022

They keep my loved one, busy with activities. The value for the money is very equitable, and not over priced. We picked this community because, it's close to home, we liked the environment, it's like cottages, and it seemed more homey.

Unspecified · September 2022

Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care is very friendly and open. My brother-in-law likes it there very much. His room is very nice and very much adequate. He is in the memory care and they do activities with them. Their price is a little on the high side, but considering the care that he's given, it's a good value for the money.

Unspecified · September 2022

We went to Meadow Thorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care. The lady was very sweet and very thorough. It was a good tour. It was just not for my mom partly because of the menu and the fact that they ate at a specific time during the day. For example, breakfast is at 8, lunch is at noon, and dinner is at 5. My mom eating dinner at 5, that's just not going to work. The apartments were a generous size, so they had that going for them for sure. I think the number of the cottages has eight apartments. There were five cottages and there were eight apartments in each. In that regard, if you were looking for something a little more small and intimate, that might be nice, but it wasn't what we were looking for. The lady that did the tour was great. She was very nice and very helpful; we just didn't get a good feeling about the place. You bring your own furniture to the apartment. It has a refrigerator but no stove.

Meadowthorpe Assisted Living and Memory Care is about two and a half years old. It's new, and they have a cottage-style setup. It's very homey. They have 6 cottages and at least one of them is for Alzheimer's residents, while the others are for assisted living. Each cottage has 5 bedrooms/living areas with a bath and shower. The rooms were well-appointed. The bathroom is a good size. The shower was huge. It needs curtains because the water stays in the shower. They have 3 to 4 handlebars, so there's plenty of things to grab onto. You bring your own chair to sit down and wash. Then you can stand and rinse off. It's a complete walk-in shower. There's no stepover or anything. So, that made me feel safe. The kitchenette and the counters were all granite and very nicely done. They had these nice dark wood cabinets. They have one caregiver for each cottage, so there's a ratio of 8 to 1. They were very nice and very attentive to your questions and needs. They also provide everybody with one of those watches/necklaces to call for assistance. You just press the buttons. In each cottage, they have the common community area with a nice fireplace and seating. They have four tables for the eight residents. You have a kitchen area where you can heat up food in the microwave. There are coffee pots for you, and the refrigerator has free snacks and drinks. The idea was very well put together. You get a small number of neighbors in each cottage, but the cottages interact for big events/activities. They have another room for entertainment with a piano. There's even one of the cottages that had a bar setup. They have transportation on schedule for medical visits twice a month with no cost. If you have a third medical appointment, that's a $3 charge. They can do the grocery shopping for you, too. They pick up your orders and bring them to your room. The activities could have been improved. I thought they were over cautious with COVID because they haven't been out on outings, but they're going for the first time this month.

I highly recommend Meadowthorpe Assisted Living! My father has been living there for almost 4 years. We are impressed by the administrative and care staff, who are very compassionate, professional, and dedicated to working with elderly people with dignity and respect. I also appreciate the clear communication they maintain with us about changes to his situation and the ways they help us all work together to sustain his quality of life and care. We also love the cottage layout, which is not only very warm and homey, but also allows for a good staff-to-resident ratio. Each resident can have their own small apartment space while also staying connected with the community through shared events. We are very grateful Meadowthorpe is in Lexington.

I would highly recommend Meadowthorpe assisted living!! They have been so wonderful taking care of my mother in law. They are all family oriented there, which I love. She enjoys it there and is doing much better there. It is very organized and clean. Thank you all for all you do.

My mother lived at Meadowthorpe Assisted Living for 6 months in 2021. We had such a lovely experience. The staff are kind and helpful, the administration goes above and beyond to accommodate individual needs and make residents comfortable. The building style is so much better than the large, long hallways in larger facilities. The apartments are so nice and cozy. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for care for a loved one. I will always be thankful to Lea Ann and her staff for the care and support they provided my family.

Unspecified · December 2021

We have found Meadowthorpe Assisted Living to be an excellent facility for our family member. The apartment is a nice size, everything is easily accessible, and in good working order. The caregivers and support staff are generally very good. The facility is clean and well maintained. The meals are generally good too. The administrative staff have been easy to work with and very responsive. While no one wants to be in a situation where they cannot live independently, this has been a positive overall experience in a tough situation. If you need this level of support, we recommend you take a look at Meadowthorpe. Suzy Hoffmann and Carl Schreiber

Back in February we had to put my Mom in Assisted Living due to her dementia progressing. She needed someone around all the time to watch and make sure she was safe, directions on where things were and just reminders on daily functions. Meadowthorpe popped up when I started looking. Umm…not the ideal location (I live in Jessamine County, too far away) but something made me call them. I looked at other places but kept looking back at Meadowthorpe. The staff at Meadowthorpe met all my wants and Mom’s needs. They were great to work with. AND I can’t say enough good things about Earl the Activity Director. He was the BEST! Always letting my Mom follow him around and engaging her in all the activities! The residents in her cottage were so patient with her, they were a family! Thumbs up for Meadowthorpe and would totally choose them again.

A wonderful facility with an optimal caregiver ratio with a responsive and caring team and staff. Prompt and punctual in returning phone calls, emails and texts, which is vitally important to determine the right facility. While still uncertain of the level of care required for Mother, at this time, Meadowthorpe is an immediate contender with availability, yet final decisions of placement will be determined by progress and final diagnosis. Impressive.

My aunt moved into the Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care. It's wonderful. It's very small and quaint, and they provide a lot of personal attention. It's very nice, it's very well kept, maintenance is well done, and there's no problem. With the COVID, it's kind of hard, but they do have plenty of things to do, and the activities director is very, very wonderful. The value is very good, and they're very willing to work with you. It's probably the best secret in Lexington.

Unspecified · June 2020

My mom moved into Meadowthorpe Assisted Living & Memory Care. I thought it was excellent for the size of the apartment, for the type of amenities, for the staff to patient ratio, for the cost, and for the location. They have a full calendar of activities, but currently they are not able to provide them because of COVID-19.

On Aug 5, I was visiting my mother after work. Her caretaker, Aaliyah (Tish), popped in a number of times just to check on mom. I think that shows how much she loves her job & the residents. Thank u Aaliyah & Meadowthorpe!

Beautiful facility but we want only one room with an attached bath to prevent any confusion and allow reduced walking. Staff were very informative and the setting is very secure, affordable, easily accessible, but we do not feel it is a good match for our needs.

My Mom, Juanita had the privilege of staying at Meadowthorpe for 3 weeks while my husband and I, were on a mission trip. My mom has dementia but it was determined that it would be better for her to stay in the less restrictive Assisted Living area. She also has special dietary needs. Well, I would like to inform anyone considering MAL (Meadowthorpe A/L), this place and the staff - from manager to caregivers- are exceptional. My mom is a Vegan, upon our arrival to her beautiful apartment -there was already in the fridge soy milk and almond butter placed there as a special greeting and reassurance that her dietary needs could and would be met. And they were!! Her caregivers were wonderful and the A/L environment choice was the right match for her. She was active in the exercise programs and her family and friends visits were welcomed and appreciated. I would not hesitate to have my Mom stay there again or live there if that became necessary. Her apartment was well played out and beautifully furnished. The house provided the social interaction she needed and the staff members were warm and friendly and so kind to the residents. My mom was treated with love and respect. May GOD continue to bless the staff, as they serve, and the residents, as they live and thrive, at Meadowthorpe. Sincerly, ReneeCairo.

My mother moved into Meadowthorpe Assisted Living eight weeks ago. It has been excellent. They do more than most assisted living places and the ratio is better. They have more activities throughout the day than any of the other places, too. There are five buildings that each house eight apartments. One building is all memory care and locked down. They have at least one employee in each building at all times. There is also a button in the room that the family can call if they need to talk with someone who calls the attendant. The meals are made in one place. The food is above average for sure. It is brought to each of the buildings from the main building where it is cooked in warming tray. The activities range from On-This-Day-History to yoga to regular exercising classes to making jewelry and to painting. There are four or five activities per day. They take each building out on an excursion once a month. They have been to the Southern Lights at the Horse Park, which is a Christmas light drive-through. They are very active. The staff members assist my mother with bathing. She had never allowed anyone to do that before, so they assist her bathing. The bathrooms are wonderfully equipped and very safe. Anytime I call, the staff members are always receptive. However, there is no security in each building. There is no passcode to come into each building, but there are cameras on everything.

Facility & staff unprecedented in quality. These folks cared for our Aunt Mary Wells and she committed often about the love and care given her by the whole staff. Before her passing July 16, 2018 we even were given confirmation of the quality care by the hospice nurse. She stated that she had not seen this quality in any place - The staff did their job but obviously went far beyond resident - staff relationships. Staff new special needs & desires with extra effort to meet all. Some staff even made extra effort by spending time with her after their scheduled working hours. Not enough can be said how much we appreciate their care for Auntie Boo which we classify as being a real Blessing & Ministry to our family. John Kurtz

The MAL staff has gone above and beyond expectations with Mother. When it was time to move her to memory care they placed her in the apartment with the same spatial orientation as her former apartment, took photos of her room and moved everything and brought in extra staff and placed her furniture, knick knacks and photos in the exact same place as her old rooms (even down to the order of her shoes in the closet), and made the transition as stress free for her as possible. I have been very impressed with the level of care, the quality of the staff, the atmosphere, the quality of the food and the beauty of the facility. And the rates are very reasonable. I keep waiting for “ the other shoe to drop!" :)

Meadowthorpe Assisted Living was a brand-new facility. It didn't have as many amenities, but it's very nice, very clean, and the staff was very informative. The residents help prepare some of the meals and things, and it had more of a home-like atmosphere. They have a reading class and speakers who come in.

Meadowthorpe Assisted Living's rooms were lovely, but I didn't see any residents and any activities going on. I liked it because they had individual sections, in which they had a dining area and a kitchen area. The rooms were beautiful and I liked them. They had outside gardens and a patio with rocking chairs and benches. The place was really nice and I loved it. They have a breakfast bar and they have a lady there who will fix pancakes for you if you want them.

After researching the many different care facilities in Lexington, Kentucky. Meadowthorpe Assisted Living was at the top of my list. I am so thankful to have had the chance to become a member of the wonderful staff at this facility. Meadowthorpe has become more than just a work place for me, the staff and residents have become a second family. There is never a dull moment working along side of the caring staff members. Administration staff have shown their knowledge and professional abilities along with their good-spirited and caring personalities. I would recommend Meadowthorpe to any of my friends and family because I know they would receive the care they deserved. If you are in search of a care facility, Meadowthorpe assisted living is definitely the place to be.
