My Dad moved there in the summer of 2025 in the independent living side. All was good at the beginning. But as time went by we started to notice a few things not quite living up to what was promised. First it wasn't kept as clean as it could have been. We often used a side stairwell entrance, and it was often dirty. Bugs, tissues, dirt etc., in the hallway going to the stairs. We mentioned this to the staff, sent pictures, etc., but it was an on going issue that never really was addressed. My dad was also supposed to get an every other week light cleaning of his apartment. This started happening less and less as time went on. We asked the head maintenance person about it. He didn't have a good answer, and when we asked what his records showed about when the apartment was cleaned, he couldn't produce anything. They also lost their liquor license a few months after my dad moved in. They touted the "Happy Hours" when we went to look at it before he moved there, but they never did get their liquor license back for months and still didn't have it when my dad moved out. Next, my dad broke the glass in his oven door. It stayed that way for a good 3.5 months and was still broken when he moved out. Move to this place with your eyes wide open. The food was good, and the menu seemed to vary enough so that you didn't get tired of the choices. Cable was included, the appliances seemed ok, but low end. There was both washers and dryers in some units and well as community ones on each floor. The activities were the standards, bingo, etc. Overall it's an average place, nothing special, but the lack of some cleanliness aspects and of follow through on repair issues makes it seem likes it's trending downward overall.

I have over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field. I am a licensed Cuban nurse with four postgraduate diplomas, and my husband is a general practitioner and intensive care physician. We are both professionals with extensive experience and a deep commitment to compassionate care. During my time working at this facility, I witnessed situations that I believe it is important for families to be aware of so they can understand the reality of the work environment and the treatment of patients. Despite my professionalism, experience, and dedication, I received rude and offensive treatment from the manager and the leadership of the facility. On several occasions, the manager addressed the women with disrespectful and degrading language, creating a toxic environment that is completely inappropriate for a healthcare setting. I also faced discriminatory behavior, including racism, which affected both my emotional well-being and the quality of the work environment. Furthermore, there were multiple labor irregularities: we were not paid our full salaries on several occasions, and the bonuses that were promised were never given. These types of practices reflect a lack of ethics and completely deficient administrative management. During my time there, I witnessed internal messages from the leadership using highly offensive and vulgar language towards the staff. They addressed employees with crude words, disrespect, and veiled threats. This type of communication reflects the toxic and unprofessional environment within the organization and demonstrates the leadership's inability to handle situations with professionalism and respect.

Having dealt with multiple retirement communities by the way of three grandparents, a mother and a father, I can absolutely say this has been the worst experience by far. They constantly try to pull things over on residents. Say the rent is $3500, well they invoice the amount at $5000 and credit $1500. When renewal comes around, it goes back to $5000. They hope you don’t notice and then you have to complain just to get them to reduce it back. Clearly they hope seniors forget about it and pay the inflated amounts. Every other community has a year lease and then you go to month to month. Not here, they will pursue for the entire lease term. If you ever need a higher level of care due to an accident or cognitive decline, you are required to give a 60 day notice. You read that right, two extra months rent – they penalize seniors for declining health. Don’t believe me? Check the lease. They constantly send out passive aggressive memos advising of some new fee or regulation. Very few activities or trips. Independent residents only get one meal per day. Also, if there is anyone living above you, it is SUPER loud, very thin floors. They also charge $25 to pay by check each month. Why? You know why…they want control of your bank account. The director had no prior experience working in senior living and boy does it show. There are just so many better communities out there, don’t fall for their smoke and mirrors. I am sure this review will get removed because no one likes the truth, they just want the fluff.

I would highly recommend. They are nice, friendly. They offer a lot of activities for the residents as well as for the family.

When I walk into Story point Middletown I see smiling faces. The staff knows everyone by name not just the residence but also family members. The staff are always helping someone. It nice knowing there are truly caring people taking care of my loved ones.

I have visited this facility multiple times, and it consistently leaves a positive impression. The property is well-maintained, clean, and visually appealing. The staff is warm, welcoming, and attentive, particularly the staff, who provide excellent service in dining room. Overall, it’s a well-kept and inviting environment.

I've had a wonderful experience at Story Point Assisted Living Home in Middletown. The facility is very nice and clean, with plenty of options that cater to every resident's needs, making each day engaging and comfortable. David Dunbar's excellent leadership is evident in every detail, from the warm, polite interactions with the staff to the well-organized activities that keep everyone involved. Overall, it's a truly welcoming environment that I highly recommend.

Unspecified · February 2025

Great facility and staff. StoryPoint Middletown has a very home-like atmosphere and everyone we spoke with was kind, welcoming, and service-focused.

Unspecified · February 2025

The executive director initially was very friendly. He said, "call if you need anything". He never returned call or text. Very poor service.

Unspecified · February 2025

Unfortunately, this is a big corporation that prioritizes maximizing profits over the care and well being of its residents.

Unspecified · February 2025

Managed poorly, high turnover of staff and overall disappointing.

Unspecified · February 2025

My family’s experience with Story Point was nothing short of horrible. When we first met David (the director) he reminded me of a used car salesman. I even told him my mother would have the same perception and not respond well. David laughed. I had the feeling he would tell us anything to get us to sign on the dotted line. My sister-in-law considered him a friend, and assured us it was a good option for my mother. Once my mother moved in, she was essentially out of site and out of mind at Story Point. My mother did not go to meals or participate in activities. Maybe that was on her, but we were told that they watched out for those things there and would let us know. The patient portal was a big selling point for my family, and it never materialized. Every time we picked up a phone to call there, it was an extra charge for an extra service, and that is IF we could reach anyone by phone. Not even the receptionist answered most of the time. David was always, “in a meeting,” and not available for calls. He did not return phone messages or texts. We had one meeting with David where he essentially confirmed that all the promises made to us prior to moving my mother to Story Point, were not going to happen. He also advised us that, “loving children visit their mother every day!” I cannot think of a socially acceptable adjective for such blatant passive aggressive behavior, so will move on. My brother lives in Africa and I live in Florida. Both of us have careers we cannot abandon to come to Louisville to take care of our mother. The entire burden falls on our sister, who also has a career. It is my understanding that my brother once arranged a conference call with David, over zoom, from Africa, and David simply forgot and did not appear. The purpose of taking our mother to Story Point was to provide her with a safe living environment with activities to keep her active. I have no doubt my mother would not be alive if she had stayed there.

Acquaintance · December 2024

I would recommend it to others. We were attracted by the price, the size of their rooms, the services like onsite physical therapy, outings, groups (social) and the meal options.

Acquaintance · November 2024

In common areas it is very clean, but for my Mom's living space we would give it a 3. The lady that cleans spends more time sitting on the couches and talking on her phone than she does cleaning.. When it comes to the food the residents complaints are common. Many activities are limiting because of residents lack of ability to participate because of diminished vision, mobility and dexterity issues. The facility is very expensive and we are being assessed a price increase on [date removed]. Monthly rate for room, board and enhanced care is right at [fee removed] per month. There is a huge turnover of staff and residents. Mom has new health care aides every week. We pay for all supplies, meds, etc. They provide laundry service, yet we were assessed an additional [fee removed] last week. Transportation services are available for doctors' appointments on MWF.

My wife and I particularly like the social events like wind down wed and happy hour Friday. Margarita Monday it gives us the opportunity to meet other residents and enjoy a cocktails or two.

I have lived in this community for two and a half years. I have lived in Enhanced Care and Independent Living. This is truly a close community a family and home away from home.

Miracle and her staff are awesome!!! My mother has been a resident of StoryPoint Middletown for over a year now and has utilized Laurus Home Health since she moved it. I never have to worry about the safety and care of my mother and feel confident that the services she receives are top notch. The staff is so wonderful and caring and very helpful. Miracle is always available when needed and makes this season of life a little easier. Cannot recommend Miracle and Laurus more!

When I found Storypoint, I was desperate to find an independent living community. Storypoint offered everything I was looking for a community. It is quiet and restful the meal are good. The place is kept exceptionally clean. There are activities and day trips. Great place for the handicapped.

I love living here at SP. I feel safe, cared for and loved. Our staff are kind and considerate. Our chef [name removed] is the best. [name removed] out executive, director is kind, compassionate and caring. Love, love, love SP.

Acquaintance · September 2024

StoryPoint didn't take care of my mom's needs - [name removed] was contracted for her care. I think my mom's needs were more than some care workers could handle. She needed nursing pretty soon after being there. I wasn't really happy with the care. She spent more time in the hospital than she did at StoryPoint.

Unspecified · September 2024

Great staff and facility that has provided wonderful care for my aunt. The facility is clean and orderly led by people that are compassionate about the residents. I would absolutely recommend if you're considering an assisted living facility.

This is a wonderful Community which provides housing for independent , or enhanced living . Storypoint also provides personal care through Laurus home care as well. The staff at Storypoint from David the director, to Katie who runs the front desk, to Ann who guides prospective clients with a tour and answers all questions , to the kitchen staff who prepare awesome meals, to the health care director Miracle Howard and her caring , helpful team, they all go above and beyond because they truly care . My brother resides there and loves it! There is also a pt staff that is available and they are great too! Donna Mudd

Acquaintance · July 2024

I am blown away every single time I have contact with any employee at Storeybrook! They have made every accommodation to help my mom any time my family has asked. They show genuine concern for her wellbeing. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone!

Acquaintance · June 2024

The management is fabulous! There are so many independent living facilities in the east end of Louisville, that it is really hard to keep the kitchen staff… Especially the chefs. There's always somebody willing to pay more. I don't think you would find a group of seniors that would agree on what's the best food, anyway. [name removed], the Executive Director is amazing. I think they are all seriously overpriced, but really love StoryPoint. She does not want to leave, so hopefully there won't be any more significantly huge increases next year. We are very happy with our decision. My mother-in-law has settled in really well.

For starters, this place is just beautiful and very well kept. A lot of amenities and the staff is super polite and helpful. I was just visiting a resident and I was treated wonderfully and felt like I was at home. If anyone is reading this and needs a place for their parent(s) this is it. Thank you so much for taking great care of my friend.

Thank you Laurus Home Health and Story Point for the incredible support you’ve provided to my in-laws over the past three years! As their needs have increased with each passing year, you’ve continued to make the necessary adjustments to give them excellent and professional care. Most importantly, working together the team has made them feel part of the family and has respected their ongoing need for personal dignity. I highly recommend Laurus Home Health and Story Point Senior Living. John Leehy Louisville, Kentucky

The combination of independent living, onsite caregivers and PT/speech.therapists allows my parents to remain as active as possible while having good oversight. We wanted to find a place that had good care no matter where it was in Louisville. We feel we have found the location. My parents have settled in nicely. I only wish we could have convinced them to move sooner.

Unspecified · April 2024

We placed my brother-in-law in StoryPoint Enhanced Living which is a step above Assisted Living as he requires additional assistance with daily living and have not been disappointed. It is so clean, the staff are amazing and caring, the food is very appetizing and activities are abundant. The grounds are spacious and well maintained. His room is exactly the amount of space he needs. He has a separate bedroom with walk-in closet, kitchenette (which he only uses the refrigerator), attached living room with coat closet and single bathroom with walk-in shower. Highly recommended!

Unspecified · March 2024

It’s clean and the food is good. Most importantly the staff is wonderful! They are in tune to my mom and her needs. Communication is also very good!

Unspecified · March 2024

The first thing my Dad would say is...The food is excellent! My Mom and Dad enjoy going to the dining room every evening. Everyone is nice, including the staff and residents. It is always nicely decorated and festive during a holiday season. Many activities offered for the residents and their families as well as very nice brunches offered for holidays such as Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day etc. The summer outside events were my favorite, with cook out, a band playing and people mingling, dancing and kids playing. Storypoint does not just focus on their residents, but their families too..Thank you for taking care of my Mom and Dad.

Unspecified · January 2024

Much like most healthcare(ish) corporations, when money is put at the forefront of a company and indicated as a priority over people, ethical dilemmas arise frequently. This company has a considerable amount of smoke and mirrors, and what may be aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, and ears, isn’t necessarily what goes on behind closed doors. If your loved ones are in good health with minimal health concerns, this is a great place for them to live! They do a fair job of getting residents out of their apartments to socialize and engage in community events. They have daily activities, field trips, dining halls with a culinary staff, and it is overall an aesthetically looking facility. There’s an independent living side and an “enhanced living” side. “Enhanced living “ is a fancy term for “assisted living” except this place isn’t regulated by the state so it can’t be legally referred to as an assisted living facility although that is exactly what it is. If your loved one has a significant amount of complex health conditions and/or physically/mentally debilitating diseases, this is absolutely NOT a place I would ever even consider moving my parents to—or anyone I actually cared about for that matter. There are NO nurses, there are NO doctors—no clinically trained staff whatsoever. If there is ever an emergency, there is no nurse to come assess your parent’s vitals, there’s no one who is trained in CPR (as it is not a requirement of caregiving staff), and there is no type of protocol other than to call 911 and request EMS services. This is not a skilled nursing setting where your family member can be routinely monitored, assessed, or have interventions be executed in the event that their baseline status changes. There are multiple residents living here who most likely would have longer and better quality of lives if they were in the appropriate skilled nursing setting. StoryPoint is PROFITS OVER PEOPLE. Those that are taking care of residents are often times unlicensed, inexperienced, and poorly trained individuals—most of which have little to no experience in the field. They don’t require any type of CNA certification to work there and hire almost anyone who walks through the door. It appears that those working in Sales routinely sell a false dream of what StoryPoint is to vulnerable elders and their families. To put it simply, they will tell you exactly what you want to hear in order to get you to sign a lease and live there. It is a “no-lift facility” yet, it seems as though they routinely recruit significantly physically-disabled individuals which include multiple residents considered to be x2 person assists. In layman’s terms, for a place that has a no-lift policy, they have no problem recruiting and moving in residents who have to manually be lifted (picked up) by not one, but two caregivers at times. The issue: because no CNA certification is required, you have an abundance of inexperienced employees who are not knowledgeable or properly trained in transferring and lifting people. Because this facility isn’t licensed, things like Hoyer lifts (a device used that PREVENTS employees from physically injuring themselves) are prohibited. Unlicensed caregivers with minimal-to-no training or certifications are expected to lift individuals who are often times dead weight and have ended up physically injuring themselves because of it. You may ask, “Well, why continue moving these types of residents in and risk the physical safety of the employees?” Again, it’s profits over people. Sales makes their money off of rent and move-ins, however, the Wellness department which is referred to as Laurus Home Care makes their money off of selling ADL services. From a business perspective, you can sell more services to, and make more money off of, an individual who needs a lot of daily care vs an individual who is mostly independent. There is a lack of ethical and moral contribution when it comes to the decisions made here. Lastly, I will add that a lot of the positive reviews posted here are by employees who were asked to post them.

Acquaintance · December 2023

It takes too long to respond to buzzes for assistance. Wound dressings are not changed regularly. Face washing and teeth brushing don't happen daily. Apartment hasn't been vacuumed or dusted as advertised. Same entrée is offered everyday during the week. Few vegetables are served.

Visitor · November 2023

I toured StoryPoint Middletown during my search for a facility for my loved one. I really liked this facility a lot! The cleanliness and friendliness were great. This facility was my second choice for my loved one and will most likely be my first choice in the future when my loved one needs more care. None of it is cheap, but at this location it at least definitely feels like you'll get what you pay for.
