Reviews
for The Altenheim Senior Health Care Community
Extremely pleased with the staff & facility. Mom is always clean & neat. She’s always out in the common areas (unless napping) like I requested. Can’t imagine a better facility in the Louisville area.
The staff at the Altenheim were so good taking care of my father the last 6 years; he was able to move from independent living to personal care and finally to the nursing home wing so seamlessly. My family loved having him there!
I’m so thankful for the staff at the Altenheim. My father is a resident who has lived at the Altenheim for 3 years. All the staff is competent and loving. The staff shows such compassion for their residents and communication between family and staff is easy and encouraged. They provide wonderful activities for the residents to stay busy and engaged. I can rest easy knowing my father is in a safe environment.
Our father has lived at The Altenheim for about three years. The staff has been fantastic the entire time. The lookout for his needs 24/7 and he is very happy there. I highly recommend this senior health care community! Thank you Altenheim!
Marcie and her staff are not only professional but also loving kind and very compassionate. My father in law was cared for here and we liked everything about this facility. Whenever we need a place for my mother or any other family member will try to get them admitted here first.
We feel so lucky to have found this place! It was clear as soon as we walked in on day one that Altenheim was different from the other options in Louisville. All the staff seem to actually care about each resident and they are always doing little extra things that make a world of difference. The staff relates to each resident as a whole person who has preferences and opinions. You will never see the staff forcing or bullying a resident into anything— they always approach with respect and dignity. We have also been happy with the cleanliness at the facility. Whenever we come to visit my father, he is clean as is his room. They even go the extra mile to make sure the flowers in his room have enough water. Lastly, I can’t vouch for this personally, but my father tells me the food is great!
A hidden gem located in the Highlands. Non-profit facility where residents are at the heart of every decision. The small, quaint size allows for appreciable interpersonal relationships between the staff, residents and families. The care team are attentive to each resident’s specific needs, the home is clean and the food is great with many options! The Altenheim is a great place to work with our elders and a great place to age in place.
The Altenheim is the best of the best in skilled nursing care! After enduring stays at two different nursing homes that were both for-profit and part of the big corporate chains in elder care, we found the Altenheim. So grateful we did! My siblings and I visit regularly, but finally have the peace of mind knowing that our mom is getting the quality care she deserves! The staff is amazing! They are experienced, professional, kind, friendly, have positive attitudes and are always willing to help. No place is perfect, but this place comes pretty close. Any issues or questions that arise are addressed/resolved quickly and with compassion and understanding. Thank you to the Altenheim for all you do, and for being the best kept secret in quality care for our elder community!
As a neighbor it's surprising the amount of noise this place makes, consistently, year after year. Practically every day of nice weather it's like a continuous construction site, with cranes beeping all day, hammering. And I'm a block away. I'd hate to ever live there. It's surprising for a health facility that the groundskeepers use gas leaf blowers constantly, and you can't contact anyone about it or get them to call back. Leaf blowers kick up micro particulates that stay in the lungs and are particularly harmful to children and the elderly. And gas leaf blowers are unfiltered pollutants, worse than semi trucks. There are serious health concerns, and they've been banned in some places. I've seen the groundskeepers leaf blowing needlessly and pointlessly in 20 mph winds, and when it's damp, when a rake actually works better. I really wish they'd be more thoughtful.
What a difference from where the hospital just dumped my father-in-law off on a Friday night. We were horrified. But Kelly at the Altenheim worked with me to get him transfered in less than a week. The staffing ratios are excellent and my father-in-law has been treated with dignity and respect from day one. We are so grateful! My fil is on hospice and was very sick when he got there. The great care and encouragement seemed to put him on a plateau. His quality of life is much improved.!
I went to Altenheim. It was kind of old and sweet. The person that showed me around was very experienced. She was good, and she was honest. The reason he couldn't go there was that there were some steps that he would have to maneuver to get to the dining hall. The rooms there were very small. It's a very old facility, which has its own charm. They're pretty small. They had two rooms, and they had a sitting room.
Nice facility, very sweet and wonderful residents. Very incompetent administration. This lady Angela who is a secretary there, was a total B and I'm censoring it. The lady who ran the place was keeping an eye on me for no reason and when she thought I was not doing my job she goes back and tell the people at the agency that I work for a bunch of lies. I was stressed out so I left. I don't want to go back and work for them at all.
I am so thankful to the wonderful, caring staff at the Altenheim. My mother was at the Altenheim for two years before she died and my family could not have been more pleased with the wonderful care that she received.
They have The potential of being a great place but they have a prejudice rude maintenance man who has the person who runs the building in their pocket. I was picked on by him, even attempted to intimidate me by staring me down every time he came near me. When I finally stood up for myself with plenty of witnesses around he threatened me and told me he runs that building and I would never work there again. He was right. Even with witnesses saying what he did, how he rudly talked to me..... I was told to leave not even by the person that was supposed to tell me. They then told my agency they had a "bad feeling about me" so unprofessional. I'm a pregnant black woman who felt threatned and that's how I was treated. I'm Glad tho for my agency who had my back and stood on my side.
Clean, beautiful rooms. Kind staff
My grandfather lives here. They really care and it is wonderful. He has good meals and they have lots of activities. He's 97 his birthday, Oct. 2019. We go out every Tuesday with my mom for lunch. He's pretty active for his age.
Great place for long term care! Very caring staff.
Great people great service and a good for Senior's to live.
I highly recommend The Altenheim to anyone looking for a safe, compassionate and caring place for themselves or a loved one to live. It has several care options to meet the needs of each individual, and a variety of wonderful amenities and activities. However, it's the staff that make it stand apart. They treat each resident with the utmost respect, dignity and professionalism. To them, it’s more than just a job, it’s a passion and a calling.
The Altenheim cared for my grandmother during her last year on earth. The facilities were up-to-date and always kept very clean. The staff was friendly, caring, and always attentive to her last need as well as our family’s special requests...ALL the way from the director, down to the nurses, and even the custodians/laundry workers. The Altenhein will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you all!
My father was given the best care possible here. I highly recommend it
Old building, but well kept and clean. Some trees outside, and benches to sit. Also a nice Gazebo. Some flowers at entrance.
A warm, hospitable home for the elderly. I love the employees. Such awesome caregivers.
Very friendly people.
Nice people
My brother has been in there for a couple of years and he said he loves it the place is clean and take real good care of you it's a very lovely place to me
They treat the residents with the utmost dignity and respect.
They have been very attentive to my relative living there. Good place for personal care and long term care.
My mom is in skilled care at The Altenheim as she took a turn for the worse, but they do offer care anywhere from independent living, assisted living, and skilled care. I think the independent living and the assisted living are part of a building that was originally an old mansion in town, and then they redid it to very nice units in a large enough apartment style. The skilled care where my mom is was added on in the late 80s. It was big enough for them, but small as they are taking care of 20 residents in total, but she is getting really excellent care. The rooms were better although there were still two beds in a room, but they each have a large full length window. They have their own restaurant service.
The Altenheim is a lovely, small, not-for-profit facility nestled in the Highlands. The care is personalized, there are multiple activities for the residents and the staff is very caring. It is a home away from home!
