for The Homeplace at Midway
My mother moved to The Homeplace at Midway in Mid December and she has received loving emotional support from all the administration and the staff during her stay. My five siblings and I feel fortunate to have worked with both Sarah and Pam with the placement of Mom in their Best Friends cottage. We all visit her weekly and always feel she is safe and receiving excellent care.
Following a broken hip, my mom's dementia rapidly progressed until she required memory care. I looked everywhere and fell in love with the Homeplace. The homey layout, home cooked meals, gardens and neighborhood-like design are truly unique and just wonderful. I cannot overstate the quality of the care my mom receives. The Homeplace team members are simply outstanding. They have gotten to know my mom so well and are very in tune with her health and moods. They treat her with dignity and love. My mom has quality of life. I am so grateful to the team at the Homeplace for giving my mom a true home and our family peace of mind.
My parents entered the Homeplace at Midway after an extensive search for a comprehensive care facility that didn’t feel like a nursing home. We started in AL but within months one parent had advanced enough to enter skilled nursing (Parkinson’s). Homeplace was intentional and accommodating to ensure my parents spent as much time together as possible. About a year later, Mom’s dementia would require memory care. Throughout these transitions and the passing of our dad, The Homeplace has gone above and beyond to care for our family and ensure the respect and safety of our parents. We are extremely fortunate to have found them.
Both of my parents are currently in The Homeplace (Mom in skilled nursing and Dad in Assisted Living). The staff in both houses are extremely kind and caring. They treat all patients with dignity and grace and are very welcoming to family and guests. I visit them nearly every day and I know my parents are being well taken care of. The Homeplace really does feel like a "home" not an institution. I sleep very well at night knowing they are both in the best place available.
My tour of Homeplace at Midway was wonderful. Each different one has its own pod. There are 12 rooms in each pod. They have a central kitchen area, and off of that, they have a sitting area with a fireplace. They have a TV room that is also considered a music room. There is one registered nurse and three CNAs in each pod. The rooms are quite large. They each have their own bathroom. If they want, there's a walk-in tub that they can make use of. The courtyard is enclosed. It is in a beautiful rural setting and there are horses in the background on the farms there in Midway. They have activities every day. Lunch and dinner are fixed, but they can choose whatever they want for breakfast, and they will prepare those. They take them out on the bus for rides and stuff like that. They have an activities director. The staff were wonderful. Sara was the one that took us around, and she was good. She took us on a very good trip. She answered all the questions. We also met the nurses, some of the CNAs, and some of the residents.
Homeplace at Midway was incredible. Unfortunately, they didn't have any availability for my mother. The setting was probably what I liked best. The cottage style of living was another bonus, in my opinion. I can't think of anything negative about that place at all. The lady that I spoke with, her name was Sarah. She and I sat down for probably about 45 minutes. She knew every single detail about the facility, what they offer, the food, and the activities that they do. She was extremely helpful and she even recommended other assisted living facilities for me to take a look at. From what I saw, everything was clean, had good smells, and it wasn't dirty at all. It looked like everything was neat, tidy, and very well-kept.
My daughter performed here with her dance studio for the residents! It was a great time, and honestly whenever my fiance and I are old old.... I would totally consider staying there! It was very clean, the staff were super nice and the residents seemed happy! #kingkritic #localguide #seniorliving
Homeplace at Midway was wonderful. I liked the idea of it as being a homey atmosphere, instead of being in a nursing home. It was a beautiful facility. Everything we saw, we were impressed with. It was clean and nice. The lady that showed us around was super nice, very concerned, and considerate of our needs. They provide beds for you and then you have your main living space out for everybody. They also have a place where they could go outside that was gated and had benches as well as raised beds for them to do gardening.
I really didn't see anything that I did not like about Homeplace at Midway. I loved the grounds, the privacy of it, the interaction with the people, and the outdoor areas for the residents to sit. I also liked that there was no regimented schedule. You can come and go as you want, eat your breakfast whenever you want, order and fix your breakfast the way you want it. So, it's more like home than an institutional place. They also have some exercise machines, a hairdresser that comes in, and a gathering area for church services or other things.
My mother is in Homeplace at Midway. They told us that once her money runs out, if they have a bed that they will still provide for her. They will not make her move into a state assisted place. They will allow her to stay there if there's a facility for her, which I really liked. I do not like the idea of having my mother at an older age having to leave everybody that she has known. The Homeplace itself is a beautiful place. It has beautiful grounds. They serve a lot of chicken and potato chips, and that is one of my pet peeves. A potato chip is not a meal; it is a snack. I think they need to have a little bit better variety of food. The food is good, and the cooking is very good. It is just that it is repetitive. It's more chicken and more chicken. The dining area is very nice. The rooms are beautiful. She has a living room, a small kitchenette, windows to look outside, a nice huge bathroom, and a nice size bedroom with two closets. The rooms are very spacious. I do not know what they have for facilities because with the Covid, we have not been able to be in. I sent her in and it was Covid. It was one of the hardest things I could have ever done because I could not see her forever it seemed like.
A beautiful facility with extraordinarily compassionate and helpful personnel. Prompt and punctual in returning phone calls, emails and texts, which is vitally important to determine the right facility. While still uncertain of the level of care required for Mother, at this time, The Homeplace at Midway is a top contender, yet final decisions of placement will be determined by availability.
Our mother and father began their stay at The Homeplace in an assisted living unit. They've since transitioned separately to memory care and skilled care. Our parents careers were spent in hospitality, they have a discerning eye, and expect a high level of care and attention. They, my sister and I could not be happier with our experiences. The peaceful surroundings, familiar and well-executed design of the campus, alongside the wonderfully attentive and caring staff, contribute to an exceptional experience. Our family is fortunate to benefit from the peace of mind that has come with choosing The Homeplace at Midway.
Since arriving at the Homeplace at Midway my mother has been treated with dignity and respect and loved more than I ever imagined! Each elder has their own furnished room which they can decorate with their personal items to make it their own and show their personality. Family style meals and a large living room, den and several porches provide opportunities for community activities and friendship. The nurse’s aides provide excellent compassionate care and they know my mother’s likes and dislikes and laugh right along with her. Her house is her home in every sense of the word. My mother has her own friends, her own stories and inside jokes…my mother has a dignified life that she enjoys showing off and sharing with all of us. The Homeplace at Midway is a blessing to our family.
My mother has been a resident of The Homeplace at Midway for several months. During that time, she has received excellent care, and the staff is encouraging, warm and nurturing. Of course, I wish she could be at home with her family, but Homeplace is the next best thing!
I cannot say enough good things about The Homeplace At Midway! We first moved our mom into assisted living and now she is now in skilled nursing, where she will most likely live out her last years. The staff in both houses are amazing. They show extreme compassion and caring. The skill level of the staff is superb! I would strongly recommend The Homeplace At Midway to anyone looking for a great place for a loved one.
My brother and I are extremely pleased with the care our mother has received since she arrived at The Homeplace at Midway! She has been a resident since shortly after their doors opened and has received consistent high quality care! The entire staff is professional in providing personal care to residents. The creative functions from artwork to holiday decorations and resident birthdays help it to feel like home! Most important, our Mom is happy to be at The Homeplace at Midway! That’s really all that matters! Thanks Homeplace at Midway!!!
I toured The Homeplace at Midway. It's excellent. It's very nice and topnotch. The staff who assisted me during the tour was excellent. They had activities.
The Homeplace at Midway is next to a horse farm. it's a very visually appealing setting. It's a different facility than most of the others because it is kinda like an eight-plex assisted living apartment center/multiple buildings. They could go to another building and to another building, and they all offered different things. The other community was a larger complex. It was very nice, but it was on the opposite end of the county from where my mother and most of her family were located, so we had to eliminate that. They were very nice and very accommodating. The room was very nice. It was kind of appealing, but it had limited opportunities for socializing, because you only had the other people within that building that you could socialize with, whereas at the other facilities there were dozens of people that you could socialize with. It's more of a family type atmosphere, because within such close proximity with all these other units, and it's all kind of like your own unit with your own bedroom, so it's big.
My loved one has been very happy at The Homeplace. I would recommend others look into this community for their loved ones. I like that the community is broken into different buildings with different care levels on the nice campus. They are a family oriented community.
Very dissatisfied that the social worker and director of nursing will not return my calls regarding important issues concerning my family member. I have left numerous messages and yet no phone call back. This makes me very uncomfortable to have my family member at a place where I can't get administration to call me back . Also , though they appear to engage their seniors on social media , they mostly do nothing but sit around all day long . It seems like a very disengaging, environment where the residents are not stimulated. My family member also always describes the food as just fair .
The concept of communal living here appeals to me. The staff was not expecting me but very graciously welcomed me and gave an “unscheduled “ tour. Everything was very clean, yet was warm and inviting. The setting is beautiful. However it is not very near any shops. Transportation, maybe once a week, or a weekly outing would be helpful. A larger television in theshared living room would be nice. The ambiance, location, and amenities make this my top choice.
The Homeplace at Midway was beautiful. It's small, but it's really nice. They don't take very many residents at a time, but they take very good care of the ones they do. The staff member was friendly and knowledgeable. The dining area was big enough for the amount of people they have there. The people there absolutely loved it. However, they didn't have a room for my husband. They only have room for ten residents that have Alzheimer's or dementia. It's within walking distance from Midway College.
I toured this community for care. They did not have a room at that time, but the staff were nice and caring to the needs that we had. The community was clean. They have a good variety of meals and activities. We liked this community a lot and would suggest that other families tour this community for care.
This is a nice community. The staff is outstanding. She likes that she has her own room and is adjusting to a new home. She does like the variety of meals. they do offer her activities with the other residents, but she is just settling into the community. The loves the music and the trips. We would recommend the care and the value of this community to other families.
We placed our Mother there in April 2016. The staff (Aids) were not giving our Mother an option (alternative, substitute) to eat if she did not like what was served on a particular day. KRS Statutes clearly state that when changes in the menu are necessary, substitutions shall provide equal nutritive value and the changes shall be recorded on the menu and all menus shall be kept on file for thirty (30) days. If a patient refuses foods served, nutritional substitutions shall be offered. This all transpires between Jan. 25 - Feb. 1, 2017. I assumed the food situation was taken care of but our Mom kept complaining to us about not liking what was being served and not given an option. I was wrong! The food situation had deteriorated and also our Mother's right shoulder had sustained some type of injury. She could not move it without significant pain. She first told me that her shoulder was hurt on January 17, 2017. I assumed the Nursing Staff had been monitoring it and Charting on it. I was wrong! Well, no one in the meeting even knew about our Mother's shoulder and we were told we would have to wait 24-48 hours to see a Chart. I agreed. Jan. 25, 6:00 PM - an X-Ray was completed at 9:00 PM. So, at least there were no broken bones which is all a Plain Film X-Ray reveals. So our next course of action was to ask the facility to send Mom out for an MRI because an MRI will show things like torn Rotator Cuff damage, etc. I called and requested this on the morning of Jan. 26th. I was refused once again and not allowed to see any Charting done on our Mom. Jan. 26, 10:30 AM - two Staff members of the Homeplace visited Mom's room asking her very "leading questions", such as: "Do you like it here?" "Would you like to be somewhere else better?" Jan. 26, 6:00 PM - my brother and I went to Homeplace to see the Charge Nurse. We asked her if we could see any type of Charting done on our Mom within the last 30 days. She called the Administrator and another Staff member and we were once again refused. Jan. 27, 2:00 PM - Tonya Cox (Administrator at The Homeplace) called to inform me that my brother and I were being placed under "Supervised Visitation" status from this point onward and ask if we could have another meeting on Feb. 1 at 5:00 PM. I agreed to meet. Allow me to interject another KRS Statute here and show where The Homeplace defied KRS Law by placing us under "Supervised Visitation." There are only a few reasons an Administrator can place a family member of a resident under "Supervised Visitation" and here they are: [1] if a resident of the facility is physically or verbally abused by the individual or group; [2] if an individual carries a firearm or other deadly weapon into the facility who is not a Law Enforcement Officer; [3] if an individual commits a felony or misdemeanor while on the facility's premises; and [4] if an individual is visibly under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs. (KRS 216.537; 216.540; 216.545; 194.050). My brother and I never violated any of these KRS Laws. At this point all signs point towards "Retaliation" from the staff simply because we asked three questions about the food, mom's shoulder and mom's Chart. Feb. 1, 5:00 PM - [removed[ said the reason she was forced to place my brother and I under "Supervised Visitation" was that we made her staff feel threatened; she accused of asking staff members for their home addresses. We never did this. [removed] also handed us a packet full of blank medical records and a 30 Day Eviction Notice informing us that they were kicking mom out of the facility! Therefore, my advice to anyone looking to place a family member in The Homeplace at Midway is this: if your family member has Dementia or Alzheimer's, then this is a great facility to place them because they will not be able to tell their family members any negative thing occurring there. If you or another family member ever complain, you better start looking for another nursing home for your loved one because they will figure out a way to get rid of you.

Since my family member has moved in, there is an amazing difference in her health! AWESOME care.
