I can’t say enough wonderful things about The Lafayette. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that truly feels like home. The staff are exceptional, the residents are vibrant and kind, and the sense of community is unmatched. One of my favorite touches is their resident-led welcome club, which helps new residents settle in and feel part of the family right away. The events and outings offer something for everyone, whether you want to stay active or simply enjoy good company. And the food? Absolutely amazing. As someone who visits many senior living communities across Lexington doing hair, I can confidently say The Lafayette stands out as the best—hands down.

We do contracting work for this establishment! We enjoy the staff, the residents, and the maintenance crew! It’s always so clean and friendly! This is one of my most favorite places to go and do work!

My grandmother has lived at the Lafayette now for almost a year. She recently fell and had to do a short term rehab stay at the building next door (Lexington Country Place) and it was convenient because the two buildings are connected. This gave her comfort because she felt like she was still close to home and if she needed anything we could walk over to her apartment and get it for her. She is now returned and is receiving exceptional care with meals being delivered and people checking on her regularly. She is always impressed by the food and the smiling staff that delivers it to her. She is also receiving the facility’s’ own therapy- which is conveniently located onsite. Everything that this community has to offer helps her and our family feel that she is safe and supported no matter the outcome. It truly is a great place to live!! She is so happy that she is always looking to recruit others to live here as well.

I have been deeply impressed with this facility. The staff and residents have been very friendly and helpful during the tour and subsequent move-in. And did enjoy dinner I had at the facility. It’s been a positive experience for us.

Incredible leadership team and dining program! Would recommend living here to anyone!

I have lived at the Lafayette for four and a half years. Have always felt safe and staff is very caring. Activities are geared to senior living and a resident may become involved or sit by the sidelines, your choice. One can make friends easily. Family is close and are always welcome.

Amazing community with exceptional care

Unspecified · April 2025

I have lived at The Lafayette Senior Living for four years now. I love it! The community is so welcoming and friendly. I love my apartment which fits my needs perfectly. There is a little park behind the building where I can walk in nature and hear the birds. The Lafayette is conveniently situated to all the places I want to go: My church, my favorite stores, my doctors and my favorite restaurant. If it’s time for the next step in your life, give The Lafayette a look. We are very welcoming! 😊

Acquaintance · March 2025

We luv the Lafayette ! My mom is still there and my mother in law. There we a few hiccups when they tried to turn the restaurant into a pay per meal and keep rent the same BUT that did not happen. only other thing I want to say is that the staff is very attentive and treat residents like family. Shoot out to [name removed] she's the best! My mom and mother in law very happy there and not interested in going anywhere else. New director very aware of residents and goes extra mile to keep everyone safe and happy

Resident · January 2025

The staff here from new management through house keepers and maintenance are all very friendly and here to help in any way. There was a tentative plan to begin charging for meals. It received such back lash that the plan was thrown out. Life has settled into a nice routine for us. Our apartment is very nice.

Acquaintance · January 2025

Last May, they let Ma stay in compression stockings for 3 months straight! Never assisted her with taking them off. She needs assisted living but they are greedy & want her money. Always fruit flies in her mo apt & they do nothing about it. She misses Dr. appts & shopping all the time due to van driver shortage. She can't take care of herself & her apt got broken into Thursday night, [date removed], while sleeping. Owner never investigated nor got back to me. This is frightening to say the least.

Unspecified · January 2025

My Mom's apt got broken into when she was sleeping Thur. night , Jan. 9, 2025. Malinka, interim director, never investigated nor got back to me. Ma is 83.5 yr old. Further, last May, Ma left there with cellulitis in both legs to be hospitalized because no one at Lafayette cared enough to check on her. She almost needed both legs amputated. Will be reporting this facility to KY attorney general.

Unspecified · November 2024

The Lafayette is nice. There's plenty of room, even in their one-bedroom units. There were appliances, and they had full kitchens. It looked complete. The staff who gave the tour knew all the ins and outs of the place. The place was very clean.

Acquaintance · November 2024

The staff, transportation, activities, facilities and rooms are all above average. The dinning room and meals however have been mediocre at best and usually well below acceptable. They do have a new chef on board now that has improved meal and food quality considerably. The biggest complaint however is that even though I have a signed contract explicitly stating that 3 meals per day are included in the rent payment they now state they will make the dinning room open to the public along with a liquor license and start charging for all meals separately from the rent charged. Without meals included the price for rent will be absolutely laughable if it didn't want to make you cry for the residents that cannot afford this! A complete game changer!

Unspecified · November 2024

As of January 2, 2025, all residents will no longer have their meals included in their rent, but will have to pay for them in the current dining room with either cash or credit card. The dining room has been converted into a restaurant and bar. Only lunch and dinner will be served, and the menu will not change, unlike the current meals. Each entree, dessert, and drink will be charged a la carte. Price points given to the current residents range from $10 to $25 per person, per meal, depending upon what is ordered. This decision reflects on the parent company and not the staff, which are friendly and caring. It has caused many current residents, and their families, financial and mental distress, forcing them to scramble for solutions in the short notification time given. My family will be sad to leave due to the financial strain and limited nutritional value being offered to our elder generation.

The Lafayette is an awesome place for independent living. Friendly staff, beautiful facilities, good food and happy hour

Acquaintance · September 2024

The staff are so friendly and ready to help when they can. The size of the apartment has been a game changer from the previous place. Living space 14'6"x 17'7" bedroom 15' x 11'10". My mother says this is home. The crown molding and bay window make it feel so much like her home. Mom can do her own laundry in the laundry room. The library has been another plus, as mom loves to read. The park area around the community offer nice walks when weather permits. The covered porch is also a nice place to relax.

Unspecified · September 2024

My mother has lived at The Lafayette for about 3 years. She enjoys the warmth, comfort, and security provided by a wonderful and caring staff. I recommend The Lafayette highly.

Unspecified · August 2024

One early evening two weeks ago, a staff person here used her key to enter my apartment without knocking and without my permission. She seemed startled to see me, and left immediately. I didn’t say a single word to her. I then sent an email, detailing this activity to the building manager. I received her response, also by email, a few hours later. She accused me of “cussing “ at her staff person. This was UNTRUE and unacceptable. Only when I threatened to hire an attorney who handles defamation cases did I receive an apology from the supervisor. “I am sorry,” she wrote, I am a retired librarian, aged 81. I do not curse at anyone. I cannot wait to get out of here. .

Acquaintance · August 2024

I would give them all a 5 except for food. My folks are having the meals delivered and sometimes quantity is small. Food quality has greatly improved--but still likely a 4. Residents are active, friendly, a few have pets & it is a good community. New manager has spruced the place up, is very personable and caring.

Acquaintance · August 2024

Would recommend, I think my parents really enjoy living there. The staff has been really friendly and helpful.

Unspecified · July 2024

This is a very nice place for senior adults

Acquaintance · May 2024

What our family likes the most about The Lafayette community is how close it is to our family. The only problem is the low staffing but we would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we have had so far.

Unspecified · April 2024

Very impressed with facility cleanliness, decor and professionalism of staff. Residents were very pleasant and only had positive comments about the facility management and amenities.

Unspecified · March 2024

I was contacted by The Lafayette through A Place for Mom when looking to move my parents into independent senior living. Michael made the process seamless and everyone has been very helpful, my parents are looking forward to moving in!

Acquaintance · March 2024

My mom seems very happy there. She says the staff is friendly and the facility is clean. The food is very good, although the meals have been a little smaller portions recently. Overall, she is really enjoying living there.

Unspecified · March 2024

What I like best about The Lafayette is the people here. They are very kind and friendly. The staff is also very good. The rooms are a good size and they are very appealing. They are carpeted and it gives a pleasant feeling. One thing I don't like is their food. It's terrible. It's really bad. There is a separate dining room that they have off of the club lounge. It's square tables with four chairs, artfully arranged. It's carpeted, too. I play cards personally, but they also have bingo, different types of exercise classes, crafts classes, and movie nights. There is a hair salon here, physical therapy, and OT. The facility looks good. They just did a thorough remodeling that took care of all the cosmetic problems, but there are still some problems with the pipes and the wiring. Just old things. The place is 40 years old and has most of the original stuff in it.

Unspecified · February 2024

They will tell you anything to get you to move in. The website is misleading because it has been renovated. I lived there for a few short months, and they renovated everything but the things that needed to be renovated (i.e.. plumbing, electrical and the kitchen).

Acquaintance · January 2024

In general, the staff has been pleasant and helpful. The departments my loved one has had an issue with are maintenance, food service and general management. The food is "absolutely abysmal" and nearly inedible. The waitstaff is short staffed, not knowledgeable, not helpful and rarely available. The food is not good quality, not well prepared, literally inedible at times (ie: meat too tough), and they run out of a lot of menu items. The silverware and dishes aren't clean. The Lafayette certainly knows how to sell itself and gives an excellent first impression. No red flags were raised. We understood there would be an adjustment period and not everything would be perfect. However, once my loved one moved in, it all went downhill. The move in process itself was easy though. We would not recommend this place at all and are actively looking for another facility. One positive note, the transportation department is amazing, helpful, on top of things, and very pleasant.

Acquaintance · September 2023

The Lafayette used to have a good reputation, but it is under new ownership. The staff is generally nice and the housekeeping is good. The general manager is ineffective and concerns go unaddressed. Communication with family is nonexistent. The move in process was upsetting. The A/C unit was being replaced and they had move in date 5 weeks ahead. We opened the apartment to let the movers in and were met with a ladder and construction debris. The kitchen sink did not drain. No one from management greeted us or gave us any information on mealtimes, laundry, facilities, etc. We found out there was a notebook 2 weeks later and then received it after 3rd request. Dining service is terrible! They are always short staffed in the dining room and the meals are a hit or miss. They frequently run out of the posted meal of the day or the order is wrong. Two hours to be seated and get food at dinner and order mix ups are frequent. I did send an email to corporate about a month ago, but I have not received a reply. We cannot recommend The Lafayette and will be moving out as soon as we find a better facility.

Resident · August 2023

I truly love my apartment and it feels like home to me at The Lafayette. I really don't have a lot to compare it with, but when I was younger I visited several people living in different facilities and I was not impressed with them. So, this is totally a different experience. I'm very pleased with my choice and the staff could not be any nicer. Also, the car service is another plus! I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

Unspecified · January 2023

If you like dealing with bedbugs and writing your name on the dust left on furniture after “cleaning” you will like it. Much better choices near by.

Unspecified · December 2022

The Lafayette was nice. They offer full kitchens, but there were two reasons why we didn't go. Mom kind of goes back and forth between a wheelchair because she has orthopedic issues. However, getting into the kitchen was not going to be easy for her in a wheelchair because their kitchen was too small and had four walls. They had a spot to walk a dog that was nice, but it's a very busy area. The place itself is on a busy road. I met the salesperson. She was very nice and very welcoming. She seemed to be fine. The atmosphere seemed nice. They're doing construction that should be finished soon. Most of their common areas are being renovated right now. They have a common library that the staff said a lot of people go to and read, and they have newspapers there and stuff. It was nice that they had common areas on each floor so that you didn't have to go to the first-floor lobby area. They had places with tables and chairs, so people could have community without leaving the floor, so that was nice.

Unspecified · December 2022

The Lafayette is pretty much the only one that is affordable for us and that's in our budget. They're very welcoming, attentive, not aggressive or pushy, and they made us feel very comfortable. They accommodated us on the times that we needed to meet with them and gave us a full tour and took the time with us. They did things to accommodate their residents. The residents were able to still do things to make themselves feel comfortable, like decorating their doors, their area, and their rooms. You could tell everybody was comfortable there. The few people that I saw were able to come downstairs and be in the lobby. It was still quiet and orderly. It was still very clean, and that was important for us. The cafeteria was very nice and clean. I wouldn't say it's a newer modern space, but it still is a very clean space. It's not up-to-date but it's not old as in worn like they take care of their furniture and the carpet. They are renovating right now, so that's an added plus. What was there was well taken care of, but it was just not modern.

Acquaintance · November 2022

We really like the social aspect of the Lafayette is good for my family member. The dining room is bad for his weight, diabetes and blood pressure.

Unspecified · October 2022

The Lafayette feels like my home away from home, and I like that feeling. Over the years my home was a place for me to hide in, laugh or cry in, work or be lazy in, and still be right for me. I guess it is what I bring to it – a good part of me which I can share if and when I wish.

When I started looking for a senior living facility for my Mom, I contacted Dana Patterson (Community Relations Director) at The Lafayette. My wife had previously worked with Dana when my mother-in-law was at The Lafayette. Dana gave my Mom and I a tour of the facility and showed us the Studio and 1 bedroom apartments. After discussing with my Mother, we told Dana we were pretty sure we wanted the Studio unit, but wanted more time to think on it. Dana never pressured us to make a decision, nor did she try to persuade us to the more expensive 1 bedroom unit. I appreciated the “no pressure” approach. My Mom is the widow of a World War II veteran. I noticed in the Lafayette packet information that my wife had previously brought home details about VA assistance for spouses of veterans. Being on a tight fixed income, getting this VA assistance was key to my Mom being able to live at the Lafayette. I initiated the call to the number in the packet for “Elder Benefits Consulting” and worked with one of that company’s consultants to prepare the necessary paperwork for my Mom to submit a claim to the VA for spousal benefits. Cindy Jones (Executive Director) had no hesitation signing the required papers that I submitted to the VA, and was very willing to review and discuss the paperwork with me. With Cindy’s help, Mom got approved for “Entitlement to Survivors pension with entitlement to aid and attendance” benefits. Please explore this option if you are a veteran or spouse of a Veteran on a tight fixed income and are looking at moving to the Lafayette (or any other Senior or Assisted living facility). Now that my Mom has been at The Lafayette for 5 years, I feel very comfortable about giving this review. My Mom loves living at the Lafayette. I ask her quite often if she is still happy, and she always replies “I love it here, and here is where I need to be”. The staff and residents are extremely nice and helpful to my Mom and have made her feel right at home. I will not mention the Lafayette staff either by department or by individual name for fear of leaving a department or employee out. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and most important to me “CARES”. I am at the Lafayette an average of 4 to 5 times a week to spend time with my Mom. No matter who is working, the staff always greets me with smiles and are willing to help my Mom or me at any time. The staff has also been so friendly and helpful to other relatives who have visited Mom. On more than one occasion, a member of the staff has actually walked them to Mom’s apartment. Members of my family who have visited Mom at the Lafayette all have glowing things to say about how friendly and helpful the staff are, and that my Mom is fortunate to be able to live at the Lafayette. This is the perfect place for my Mom and makes it possible for her to continue to live independently. I love the staff/management and how they look out for the residents. As her son, the staff always treats me with respect. I love how The Lafayette promotes a family atmosphere. This is so important for all the residents, the majority who are elderly. To all the more than 100 residents at The Lafayette who read this, understand that no place will please 100% of its residents all of the time. I only ask that you be patient with the staff, and appreciate this wonderful place that my Mom and you have to live in.

Acquaintance · October 2022

My loved one loves it here and they couldn't be happier. The staff are very friendly! There are three meals a day served to the residents and there are choices to choose from. Some of the activities available include: happy hour, bingo, field trips, exercise groups, and more for the residents to participate in. The apartment has a full kitchen it it. The laundry facilities are on each floor and it is communal. The community offers laundering the linens once a week to the residents.

Acquaintance · October 2022

We really like the accessibility and availability for our loved one to use their car transportation system - she is able to go to different appointments and even to church services. That for us was a big big benefit. We do think they do a good job with the activities and based on our experience so far we would recommend The Lafayette community to other families.

Unspecified · September 2022

The Lafayette was wonderful. I loved it. The people were so good. The residents looked happy and inviting. They talked to us, and they looked like fun people to live with, so that made a big impression. Also, the apartments were spacious, and they have a small kitchenette with a real stove and oven, which is unusual we're finding because a lot of the assisted living places will have a refrigerator and a sink. This is the first place we've been so far that has a small stove and oven, so that was a big plus. It's small but it's adequate. It's freshly painted as far as the apartments go and there were lots of options. There was one with a balcony, there was a two-bedroom and there was a one-bedroom. They may have had a studio, too, but we didn't look at those. The person who toured us was great. It was the building manager because the lady that normally does that was not there. He filled in and he was fabulous. We learned a lot about the facility because he knows the physical facility like the painting of the rooms, what they can do, and what they can offer. He was wonderful. He showed us a lot of properties. We saw the dining room and talked to some residents that loved the place. For me, when you see residents happy and they say they like being here, that means a lot.

Visitor · August 2022

Tour was quite exceptional.

Unspecified · August 2022

A place to play bingo before you die! Food is terrible and low quality! Nothing healthy. Everyone has mobility issues but space is small. No outside space except chairs by the parking lot. Building was probably nice in the 1980s. Now water pipes burst and ceiling tiles painted over. Housekeeping is a joke.only good service has been transportation

Acquaintance · April 2022

The meals and dining service sometimes can be a hit or a miss, but they do have different activities going on which our loved one has taken advantage of a few. The value for the money is good and we would recommend them to others based on the experience we have had so far. However they could make an improvement with the security of their apartments. Our loved one has had some serious trouble with the lock and handle on the apartment door. They are just not up to modern standards.

My experience at the Lafayette has always been exceptional! The Executive Team is professional, warm and welcoming. Elegantly decorated with all the touches of home, the environment is inviting and pleasing. Ideally located in Lexington, The Lafayette is a gem in the city and well worth a visit!

I have enjoyed a productive business relationship with the team at The Lafayette for some years, and value it among my best group of contacts. The team there is very professional, knowledgeable, and service-oriented, always prepared to do what is needed to accommodate a resident!

The Lafayette is a stellar independent senior living community with a long standing reputation of excellence. A caring staff, delicious dining and activities to suit every interest make the Lafayette a winning Lexington tradition for seniors looking for comfort, convenience and service.

The Lafayette staff is top notch! We helped care for one of their residents and it was a team effort between her family, The Lafayette and our caregivers.

Unspecified · August 2017

Our tour of The Lafayette was delightful. The lady was very pleasant, very helpful, and she has called back a couple of times to check up on things. She was very thorough. I was really impressed with her. I was impressed with the facility. However, my friend wasn't impressed because she felt the carpet was dirty throughout the facility, but they said they were getting ready to replace some of the carpet. For what it was, I was impressed with it. It is around 30 some years old. We went down and ate in the dining room and the food was not that desirable. The rooms were very nice but they did not have a stove and a dishwasher. It was just a sink, a refrigerator, and a microwave, and that did it for her. She wasn't interested at that point.
