Village Heights

I moved into Village Heights in 2006 with my wife, Joan, she passed away in 2012 and I decided to stay at Village Heights. I have enjoyed getting to know the other residents and the staff. I am now 94 years old and have not quit, yet! I’m glad I found a place that I can spend the rest of my years with no worries.

Choosing Village Heights was the best decision we could have made for ourselves, and especially and more importantly for our adult children. Have you ever had to be a caregiver? Have you felt the heavy weight of watching someone you love slowly lose themselves? We have. While our journey was not as difficult as what others face, it was filled with days of deep concern and great stress. After my mother passed away, we had a serious conversation about our own health. With our children living away, we had to be mindful of the future. Would they have to do as we had done — rearrange their lives or leave their homes to care for us? How would they deal with our fifty-plus years of accumulated “stuff” in our home and barn? After much prayer, thought, and discussion, we scheduled appointments at two assisted living facilities. We only made it to one—because we found everything we were looking for at Village Heights. We are truly blessed with our two-room apartment looking out onto the beautiful courtyard. Bob helps keep it looking great, giving him the chance to get his hands in the dirt. Having three delicious meals provided for us each day is wonderful, and it takes so much off our shoulders. Bob also leads a gospel sing each month. I enjoy leading a monthly card-making class, being in the book club, and still getting to do a bulletin board. Those bulletin boards bring back my many years as a teacher and/or principal at Colony, Hazel Green, and North Middle in the Laurel County School System Those are only a few of the various activities offered each month. As one ages, the concern about falling or not being secure could be quite an issue causing additional stress on caregivers. That is not a problem for us at Village Heights ...seeing the security guards walking the grounds 24/7 gives us immense peace of mind. Although we are encouraged not to do so, I believe we could leave our doors open 24/7 without any problems. Knowing we are safe and being well taken care of by the excellent staff that treats us like extended family relieves our children and assures them of our both our safety and happiness. As we both manage serious illnesses, we are assured we will live out our remaining years receiving the best care from empathetic, compassionate individuals. We know we made the right choice.

Village Heights is a wonderful place to live if you can no longer live safely in your or a family’s home. The food is great. You can have as much privacy as you want. There are lots of activities indoors and trips to go shopping and to entertainment venues in the community. You may have your car here if you are able to drive safely. When I realized I should no longer be driving because of confusion and memory loss I knew I could no longer live alone. I encourage you to give Village Heights a try. Family may visit at anytime. The price is the most affordable compared to similar places. I am thankful every day to be here. We are so fortunate to have an exceptionally good place like Village Heights in our town. I was living alone in my own home in Laurel County. I am 77 yo woman. I worked as a social worker for 42 years.

Village heights has been very helpful for me. I have had excellent 24/7 care. This is like a second home for me, from the very first day I’ve been happy. The staff is amazing and always ready to help. The ladies in the kitchen are always making delicious meals and will accommodate you to whatever your likings are. If you are looking for a place to spend your later years you would not want to pass up on village heights.

villages heights is a wonderful place, safe place and very caring. The staff here is wonderful! When you get in a shape that you have to come here and leave your home you’ll find a home here

The workers here are great! All of them are very helpful and make my life easier. A huge plus for me and my husband is the Food, overall it is very good but my favorite is the breakfast!

Village Heights was very satisfactory, and I was impressed with all of the facilities. Everything was all inclusive. They had facilities on-site to take care of laundry and everything. Then the apartments were very, very nice. They have an activities director that provides activities for all the residents, a courtyard, and a library. I was very impressed with the one-bedroom apartment they showed me. The staff was very professional. They served me a meal, and it was very, very good. They also provide transportation to doctor's appointments or to stores. All you have to do is tell them where to go and they work with you very, very well.

Laurel Village management and staff are truly outstanding in their consistent excellent care. Mom stayed here for 5 1/2 years and has recently moved to Laurel Heights nursing home. We have nothing but good things to say about this facility and its caretakers. They should be justifiably proud of themselves for their loving service to the elderly.

Entire staff is well chosen in that all are caring and compassionate individuals. Grounds and facilities are well kept. Meals are varied, healthy, and well served. Administration is excellent, and pharmacy strives to be helpful. The atmosphere is as encouraging as possible for a facility of this type.
