Reviews
for The Grand Senior Living
Went and toured with my aunt, not only beautiful community but a great tour, residents were engaging and seemed very happy. Andrea was fantastic gave us all the information and resources we needed. Yes my aunt is moving in.
We Love the high end dog spa at The Grand! Keeping the grand-pups nice and clean. This is a wonderful feature. It has all the essentials of a professional dog wash.
Deeply Disappointed in The Grand – A Facility in Decline The Grand was known to be a premier senior living facility in Louisville as well as one of the most expensive facilities when we moved our father in. However, since Sherry took over last spring, the quality of care and services has plummeted. Her approach is consistently disingenuous—telling families what they want to hear while making promises that go unfulfilled. We've been assured multiple times that issues in our father's apartment had already been resolved, only to find nothing has been done when we visit. It's beyond frustrating. The dining experience is equally disappointing. When my siblings and I join our father for meals, the wait times are outrageous, the food is cold or stale, and they frequently run out of basic menu items. The chef even told residents to come find him if their food hasn’t arrived in 30 minutes—yet he’s nowhere to be found and this is not an acceptable wait time Coffee and iced tea are consistently watered down, and they often claim to be out of coffee altogether. It’s clear there are cost-cutting measures in place that directly impact residents’ quality of life. Housekeeping is a joke. Their standard of clean is appalling at best. They either skip rooms or claim “general cleaning” has been done, but basic tasks like changing sheets, mopping and cleaning bathrooms are neglected. An outside, professional cleaning crew with daily oversight needs to be hired. It is painfully obvious that the current management simply cannot keep up with all these departments that are failing and losing employees constantly. The activity calendar is pure fiction. We've tried to take our father to movie nights and lectures listed on the schedule, only to find the theater dark and staff unaware of any such events. The front desk staff doesn't even know how to turn the movie screen on. A resident living across from the theater confirmed she’s never seen it used in the 3 months she has lived there. Activities like the “brisk walking club” and “Curiosity Lectures” are advertised weekly but simply don’t exist. Even more troubling, they recently promoted pickleball—a high-risk activity for seniors prone to falls and ER visits. The Grand provides far less activities than other senior living centers in the area as well. We were told the activities director was absent for months and that some events are “resident-led,”. While that is fine for a resident to start a weekly card or poker game, it is unacceptable to list those things on the calendar of events that the other residents have to have an invitation to personally join that group. The activities director for independent living returned sometime in September but the activities have stayed the same. There is also a huge lack of outings and weekend activities. It must be easier to print a fictitious calendar that gives potential residents the idea that there are all these activities going on than to provide real, safe, and enriching activities for elderly residents. The Grand is selling a high end lifestyle of amenities—dining, housekeeping, engaging activities—that they consistently fail to deliver. Staff turnover is alarmingly high across all departments, which points to serious management issues. Sherry’s default excuse with anything is that they’re short-staffed and working on it, but nothing ever improves. You can only sweep things under the rug for so long before you lose good staff and high paying residents. As much as my father would love for his friends to follow him to The Grand, he cannot in good conscious tell them anything positive about the property other than it is a beautiful facility. Civitas needs to take these repeated 1-star reviews seriously. A reputable senior living facility cannot thrive without happy residents and a happy staff. We urge corporate leadership to stop issuing canned responses and actually address the systemic problems at The Grand. Our loved ones deserve better.
I am thoroughly disappointed in The Grand. I posted a negative review of the facility and they immediately respond with a canned response asking me for my contact information so they could reach out and discuss. I provided the information the very same day. 2 days later they edit their response to a fluff, oh so sorry, reply and ask me for my contact information again, which I immediately provided for a second time. It’s two weeks later and I still have heard nothing from The Grand and nothing at the facility has changed. The coffee and food are awful, there’s trash overflowing in the fire escape and all we get from the upper administration (Sherry) is lip service and non-truths. Moving my father to an independent living facility after my mother died was a very difficult decision to make. We chose what we thought was the very best place. Sadly, we were wrong.
Let me start by saying that The Grand is a beautiful facility and is very inviting. The person they have “selling” The Grand is great at her job but once you’ve moved in, very little of what you’ve been promised is what you actually get. Their gourmet dining room experience is anything but. I’m pretty certain that the prisoners in jail are getting better tasting food. The coffee is weak and nasty. It’s worse than hospital coffee. With what my father is paying to live there, he should be getting amazing coffee. He was promised professional weekly housekeeping which took 2 weeks to get started and is subpar. Whoever is teaching the housekeepers how to clean needs to be fired. The maintenance staff is a joke. The lead, Brian, is rude and unprofessional. It takes 3 workers to get anything done and they come unannounced, unprepared, and consistently try to explain why they can’t do what we were assured could be done. All of these complaints have repeatedly been voiced to upper management, (Sherry), which have obviously fallen on deaf ears. We feel like we were oversold and they have under preformed.
May 2025 update: food has gotten worse. Chef was let go again and now they have hired the 5th chef since July 2023. It’s a shame they can’t figure it out. So disappointed with the decline of The Grand. Moved my parents in 16 months ago and things were great. The building looks nice and it’s a great location but in the short time they’ve been there they’ve dealt with roof leaks, air conditioning breakdowns and water heater issues. The staff turnover has been constant, food is subpar and corporate office keeps raising the rent with no improvement to residents living environment. 9% per year increases for the past few years according to the longer term residents and there are plenty of hidden fees as well. We had high hopes when they moved in but will be looking elsewhere.
The activities are mostly just getting on a bus and going to restaurants for lunch. There are very few cultural events for the residents. There are MANY opportunities nearby that aren't taken advantage of by the director. The dining room provides sub par food or worse and actually RUNS OUT of food on a regular basis! If you aren't going to the dining room by 4:45 - the food may be gone. Many other facilities keep coffee out as a beverage thru out the day- we can only get coffee in the early morning- not even after dinner. Front desk workers are great!!!
Beautiful community! Wonderful location. Events are top notch.
My in-laws moved into The Grand almost two years ago. When they first moved in they were very happy and adjusted well. In the short time that they’ve been there, there’s been a marked decline in quality, with a marked increase in the costs to live there. The place doesn’t seem to be well managed or receptive to the concerns of the community. The staff turns over regularly, the building maintenance has been spotty and they’ve dealt with plumbing leaks, air conditioning issues and the meal service has gone from very good to very bad. It’s a shame because we love the location but due to the issues mentioned will need to look at other options.
Thank you for the community pie giveaway. It was delicious! Have a great Thanksgiving.
Gorgeous resort senior living community. Professional and friendly staff. Great Norton Commons location. Clean and beautiful. The food is delicious. Many activities for their residents
Very friendly and caring facility. Doing a great job celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday!
The Grand Senior Living has very caring staff, wonderful activities director with fun entertainment planned. The nurses provided good care, and were attentive and compassionate.
We went to The Grand full of anxiety. When Jon our contact spoke with us with such knowledge he lift our anxiety. He knew the correct words to use to help our father in law relax and own moving. Excellent experience!
I moved my dad in a few months ago. I was under no illusions that there would be some bumps in the road, but things have gotten worse and I have no idea if they will get better. My father cannot go to the dining room for every meal, so we pay the extra $$$ to have his meals delivered to his room. This means he is the last to receive his meals, they consistently arrive cold, are missing items he ordered, contain items he didn't order, is consistently told the kitchen is out of items from their ala carte menu, such as salmon, hamburger, vegetables, etc. The Grand also relies heavily on temporary nurses and staff from a staffing agency. This causes a huge problem with the administration of medications because they are unfamiliar with the resident's medication requirements. My father has been asked to take over the administration of certain medications because The Grand can't handle it properly. This is well below the level of care we thought my father would receive at The Grand
I can’t say enough great things about The Grand. Not only is The Grand a beautiful place for seniors to live, but what makes the place wonderful is the caring staff. We toured The Grand and worked with Jon who was so kind and helped us every step of the way!
I am a resident of The Grand Senior Living. It's a beautiful place to live. The people are very friendly and they make you feel at home. The food is delicious, including all the meals and snacks. The place is new. It's only been open for four and a half years and everything is well-appointed. I am gradually getting moved in because you provide your furniture. It's set up with a living room area, a fully appointed kitchen, a washer and dryer, a one-bedroom, and a large bathroom. I have a balcony that overlooks a wildlife area and it's a very quiet place to live. The layout of the building is very easy to get around and they have elevators everywhere. They have lots of classes offered. I've already been to a yoga chair class, there are plenty of offerings every day, and it's one of the few places that has a heated pool.
I meet with Jon today. He is knowledgeable, and had the right words to put a hesitant person at easy about senior living. I can see why The Grand has a waiting list.
Moms in assisted memory care. They go above and beyond--from the staff I have encountered want to be here. They actually care about the residents. I've noticed staff hugging and giving comfort to confused or crying residents. They have a memory care skilled facility here as well. Testing happens promptly and prescriptions timely. On a side note they have smart toilets which are proving effective at diagnosing UTI's. Mom's been here a few months and hers was detected.
Staff is caring and really looked out for my dad when he was there
Nice place ,good amenities and friendly people
Beautiful community with caring staff. They always have fun and thoughtful events happening. It seems like a lovely place to call home.
I’ve been a community health partner with staff from The Grand for several years. They go above and beyond for their residents and make sure to have interesting things planned to keep them active
This is a great place to work and live!
I love this place so much! Great staff!
Very nice facility. Food service and quality is very poor.
I am thoroughly frustrated and upset with the Grand at the moment. I asked specifically about whether my wife could have wine in her fridge when I made the determination to move her there - the answer was yes. I am now being told that the rule has been changed overnight with no notice to me and that the answer is now No. I called both the head nurse and another contact there in administration and they refused to answer their phones, but I know they were using them because a nurse at the Grand - whom I reached on my own initiative, through the switchboard - told me they had texted her about it. I change all my answers to Zeroes if I could.
Nice peaceful warming environment
👍
The Grand Senior Living is absolutely stellar. True professionals that genuinely care about their residents. Top Notch to say the least!
Great place to live great staff and AMAZING facilities!!!
I thought The Grand Senior Living was great. I liked that it was very new and clean.
I am proud to call The Grand a community partner. I have several clients that reside there, and they LOVE it! The Grand has wonderful employees, great food and a gorgeous community.
The staff are amazing to work with. Lauren is phenomenal at what she does!
A wonderful caring place. Fabulous location! Great people working there. Highly recommend it.
For older singles it is important to have other people around "just in case". A slip in the shower, etc., could be disastrous. I researched similar facilities in another city for my father, & finally got him into one after much encouragement, because we could not always be available. I visited several times a week, but about 3 months later, when I visited his first words were "I made a huge mistake about moving here. I SHOULD HAVE MOVED HERE YEARS AGO! So when I reached the same point I took my own advice, and moved into The Grand only a few months after my wife passed (had to get the house ready for sale). Now I no longer need to cook (but the apartment is fully equipped & I do small things occasionally). There is periodic maid service. The dining hall assures company for meals, and guests are welcome. There is even a special smaller room if you want a private meal with outside friends or family. An Activities Director has a schedule that will keep you as busy as you want to be, including outings to specialty restaurants, museums, library, book shop, etc. Live entertainment of various types is regularly brought it. The facility itself is in a great location, with restaurants & normal services nearby. A good dentist is within easy walking distance. If you choose to switch to him, there is an MD that comes to your apartment for normal appointments. If injections or blood samples are needed, one of his staff comes in a day or so to attend to those. Rehab services are provided in the facility by other services that come here. You are still free to travel as you wish, but no worries about burglary of a house. Pets are welcome. And that's just the things I am aware of. There a some garages available. The net of all that is that in the last year I've only put about 450 miles on my car. (There are still a few things like toiletries we have to go buy.)
I admire and respect the management and employees of The Grand. In particular Kelsey, Judy, Jon and Deb in front desk.
Food has been awful. Now are cutting portion sizes to accommodate cost.Corporate and the Grand staff need to eat with us especially on weekends.
The staff and the facility have consistently exceeded my rather high expectations
This has been a great experience for us. The care the staff provides has been good and has made it a good place to be. The staff communication with the family has been good. There are three meals served a day and there are choices for the residents to choose from.
The staff is very helpful to get my loved ones into the community, and I appreciate all they did to make it a quick transition for my loved ones. At first the communication with the staff was excellent; however, things have started to dwindle a bit. Once I was able to speak to the director about a situation, they moved quickly to resolve the situation.
The Grand Senior Living has been excellent and my brother is very happy here. Our initial interview with [name removed] was great - she gave us the tour and all of the information up front. [name removed] the activities director is awesome as well. [name removed] has been extra attentive to my brother as well. These are 2 of the staff members that really have stood out to us. Overall this was the best decision we could have made and we are happy that he is here - he calls it his home now. He enjoys all of the social activities as well as the physical activities. The location is super convenient to the hospital which gives us peace of mind. The facility is new and very open and vibrant. His apartment is airy and he has huge windows so he gets a lot of natural light. I would absolutely recommend the facility to others.
Overall I have had a very good experience with The Grand of Prospect Senior Living and I would recommend the facility to others looking for independent living.
Very professional facility & staff .
I had a good tour at The Grand Senior Living. They have everything that you might want, it's just a little pricey for me. They have a fitness center, I like the idea of different activities that they have, and they have a movie room. They had a nice outside area, not only for walking but if you want to go out and do a cookout or something. They offer transportation, and I like that they have somebody at the door all the time. Some places don't have anyone after a certain time. The staff was very friendly. John was the person who took us around, he was very much a people person and very helpful. They were having a program the next week on moving, and he gave me the flier and invited me. He also said if I wanted to come back and have a meal, so I could experience it. So they're very willing and very cooperative. I just like the whole atmosphere of The Grand, from the time you walk in and walk out, and the people that I passed by were friendly. And that's important to me.
Professional and courteous!
A very nice place. Talked with several residents and everyone had positive things to say about living there!
Beautiful facility, knowledgeable and caring staff who are passionate about caring for senior residents!
Such a beautiful place! Sherry (community outreach director) and Emily (IL director) are awesome!!
What a wonderful place! I am always impressed by the beauty, spaciousness and terrific staff! Sherry Ernst and Lauren Stroud are so warm and helpful. Today we learned that there are even MORE amenities for residents of The Grand. If you are, or love a senior citizen, make sure to visit this very special place.
