Reviews
for The Breckinridge Memory Care
Single-handedly the BEST memory care in Lexington!
We had a very positive tour experience with The Breckinridge. The staff were all very friendly. We were looking for a facility that had more of a home-like feeling to it, and this was just not the right fit.
The Breckinridge is fantastic. For those with advanced dementia, this is one of the best places you could have your loved one. Their staff is dementia trained, whereas at other places that say they provide memory care, that may not be the case. The Breckinridge's staff are certified dementia care specialists.
We recently moved my mother from another memory care facility to The Breckinridge. The difference is truely amazing. Here they cater to the residents and their needs, not like other facilities that try to fit them into their mold. Everyone is so kind and caring, you can really tell they love each and every resident. The peace of mind I now have that my mother is happy and cared for has lifted a weight off my shoulders. Thanks to The Breckinridge I can now be her daughter again.
This is a wonderful memory care community!
I can't recommend The Breckinridge enough!! This is without a doubt the best memory care facility in Kentucky. The staff are very attentive and clearly love what they do, and the residents all seem very happy and comfortable.
The Breckinridge is a very nice community and the location is very nice for our family its very convenient to go and visit. The activities director at the time was absolutely fabulous. Based on our current experience we would recommend this community to other families.
Breckinridge is an outstanding facility. An incredible effort has been made to protect the residents during the pandemic, and at the same time, provide them with excellent care. My mother, a resident there, who is almost 100 and has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, naturally, would like to live alone at home and drive her car, but that is no longer safe. After much research and professional consultation, as her Guardian, I chose the Breckinridge for her, and I’m glad I did. Unfortunately, a one-star review was recently posted by Marla Land, her granddaughter, who has repetitively defied reasonable visitation rules. This resulted in her ban from visitation until further notice. The director has given Marla multiple warnings, in hopes that she would change her behavior. She did not. Her defiance of authority has also resulted in her ban from previous places of employment, even an eviction twice from the Madison County (KY) Court. Family visitation is encouraged unless it results in the resident being agitated, which was the case with her multiple times. All the staff, including Kelley and Donna, are kind and professional, and have the residents’ care as their top priority. I highly recommend the Breckinridge.
My mother resides at The Breckinridge. Not only I am impressed at the excellent care she is receiving, but our family is relieved in knowing she is in a safe and comfortable environment. We are encouraged to visit her by professional and courteous staff and find Mom content and happy during our visits. Knowing Mom is staying busy and entertained with all of their program activities, receiving meds as prescribed, eating healthy meals and snacks, and being looked after by a nursing staff has made the difficult decision of placing Mom in a place away from home easier.
So, this is my Yelp review. I would like to start off by saying that I think Amber the nurse there and Tiffany the new employee are very kind. This complaint has nothing to do with them, Also, with all the changes in Covid, Memory Care facilities have to follow guidelines and I agree this is very important. Right now visits are conducted in patient's rooms. When I enter the door I walk down a hallway to get to my Grandmother's room. This is the same hallway I walk down to leave. When I walk down that hallway and ask for an extra plate Donna and then Kelley reprimand me as if I've had a lobotomy or I'm a child. It's rude and unnecessary. The Breckinridge doesn't take patients on outings either. My Grandmother even asked me if she had done anything wrong to be in prison like this. Donna and Kelley act more like prison guards than they do caregivers. Therefore, I do not recommend this facility to anyone. Marla Land
This community has an atmosphere that is more like a home atmosphere. The people are very friendly and compassionate with the residents. I love the fact that they have doors that open at the top so that they can check on the residents hourly.
The reason that I chose The Breckenridge was because the residents are able to go outside into a green space that is an acre large, it is all trees and green grass rather than concrete. They are allowed to go in and out as they please but it is secure. None of the other places that I visited had this set up. All of the rooms here are private, they have 18 residents so it is a smaller community which I love. The only issue with it being smaller is it is harder to get visitation times, especially on the weekends. You really are not forced to participate in anything that you do not want to do which is great for him since he is so laid back. It is a good fit for my husband because it is so quiet.
I would tell others that this is the best place to take a loved one. My loved one was not happy anywhere, until they got to The Breckinridge. The staff knew how to care for my loved one and keep them calm.
It is for advanced dementia and Alzheimers residents only. They do a good job caring for the folks. It is a secure community. They have a nice outdoor space for residents. They have a secured walking path.
In my opinion the care the residents receive and the food they are served has diminished over the last year or so. I also notice the bathrooms aren't as clean as they once were(That's very unsanitary). However, the staff are very kind and caring to the residents.
This is a smaller home but has enough long time staff that assist each other as well as each resident. They are very attentive to the resident’s needs, they eat alongside the residents and check on the residents at various times of the day. They love the residents as if they were their own family. When my loved one was in the hospital the nurse remarked as how well the skin was taken care of indicating there was no signs of bedsores or any other breakdown of the skin. For those who can they are to walk around not only inside but also on the grounds. Very happy my love one is here!
The BEST place like this in the area.
The Breckinridge was our second pick for Mom. We decided against it because it was too expensive.
We brought my uncle to The Breckinridge in May 2015 from another facility where he had spent less than 4 months and was constantly being "sent out" (meaning he would be sent to a psychiatric hospital for approx 5 days for his meds to be adjusted). This was not good for his overall health as it upset and confused him greatly. He had no idea why the trips to strange places in the middle of the night. His ankles swelled from constant pacing because of the confusion. Finding The Breckinridge was like opening the door to Heaven! He could roam outdoors on pretty days over the three acre backyard which he thought was his own. No alarms would sound as he entered or exited any of the three doors to the beautifully landscaped garden of Eden. They were usually kept together as a group as they watched movies on a big screen, or played games or trivia in the dining room. The meals were downhome southern comfort type and family was welcomed to join their loved one for a meal. In seven months' time my uncle gained 15# and 4" in his pants and I had to go shopping for bigger pants. He thrived at Breckinridge. In the 15 months he spent here never once were we called to come settle him down, or to come because they couldn't manage his behavior. Another huge benefit was the resident doctor who came weekly and kept a check on all the residents. No outside appointments were necessary as lab work, changes in meds were all done in-house. Management and staff were the best and there was very low turnover so residents got to know the staff well and they became family. I can't say enough good about The Breckinridge, only that no other facility can compare to it. Family can visit and leave with confidence that their loved one is being well cared for and treated with love and respect. No worries!
This place is like a small home fir the residents. The staff is very kind. I was there to sing caroling songs and it was a great experience
My mother has been living at the Breckinridge for almost one year now. During this time I have visited many, many times, at various hours, and at each visit I am touched and impressed by the loving, caring staff here. Cheerful and helpful, the Breckinridge staff creates a family atmosphere. I have never heard any bickering or complaints from anyone working here! The cooks, also, make excellent home cooked meals, the kind of meals Kentuckians appreciate and enjoy. The garden is gorgeous, with rubber walking paths, and a lovey patio with a wisteria covered trellis. In the winter, many colorful birds flock to the feeders. Everyone enjoys watching them through the floor to ceiling windows in the dining room. It is not always easy to work with memory care patients who may also face other debilitating diseases, so I want to voice my appreciation for the Breckinridge. Thank you.
My husband has been at The Breckinridge for only a few weeks, but I am already sure that he's in the right place. The meals are wholesome and tasty, the staff friendly and helpful, and the care for residents is top notch. The nurse called me yesterday to let me know that my husband had fallen during the night but was okay. (As a Parkinson's patient, he has had many falls.) I appreciate her letting me know. His medications are given on time. A doctor who keeps an eye on the residents has called to check on certain medicines that he questioned. All of these facts impress me, and I'm so pleased that our son and I decided on The Breckinridge.
They are just awesome! I cannot even think of enough words to adequately describe them. Everyone, from the directory, to the maintenance staff, to the care staff, etc all do wonderful. I would highly recommend The Breckinridge to anybody! I think that other places need to take lessons from them. They do a great job caring for Alzheimers patients. The atmosphere is very open, warm, and just all around nice and pleasant. Everything about it is just awesome@
