Despite the fact that over two million older adults currently reside in senior living communities in this country, only a fraction of the federal funding and testing support given to skilled nursing facilities has been given to senior living communities. Add to that the emotional toll that has been brought about by isolation and visitation restrictions, and it is apparent that the that the emotional and mental health of residents in senior living communities is on the decline.

Pat Mulloy, former CEO of Atria Senior Living and a resident of Louisville, KY, Board Chair, Argentum, Inc. wrote an article that appeared in the Louisville Courier Journal on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. In the article, Mr. Mulloy said, "... it is increasingly clear that frequent, accurate and effective rapid testing and ultimately, vaccinations, are not only the best defense against COVID-19, but also the best defense against the harmful effects of social isolation."

In the article, Mr. Mulloy urges everyone to contact their congressional representatives now. To find your legislator, Click Here. Ask them to prioritize our aging adults and the staff that care for them by ensuring that our communities have the financial resources to administer widespread testing and that future vaccines are made available to our communities.
